I don't mean with already made components like GPUs, RAM, etc. I am talking from the ground up and to the point where you can install Windows on it.

Yes it is possible. With the right environment and nutrients you can cause some types of slime molds to structurally form natural processors. Turns out processing information is much more efficient when the processors are alive and instantly adaptive.

To be capable of running any remotely modern software without being able to take advantage of machinery that can pack dozens of individual wires into a micrometer, you'd need an absolutely ridiculous amount of space and several years' worth of man-hours. Modern computing requires industrial production of components. There's really no way around that.

You mean build a PC from scratch where you actually design and build your own components? A process that already takes millions of dollars and thousands of people? And if one person could replicate that effort by themselves?

hypnox posted... Do you think its possible for one person?they would have to be something like both a computer scientist and electrical engineer, and maybe a chemist, among other things, and then they'd have to devote at least a year of their life (or ten) to this one project. if they had infinite money it would help a lot. but then, I guess still it depends how "from the ground up". do they have to mine their own silicone? if it's that bad then it's pretty close to impossible. one person could theoretically devote most of their life to doing this and maybe eventually succeed but there would be no point. there's a reason we have specialization. this basically involves being superhumanly good at too many skills at once. there are gifted people, but no one has to carry that much "skill burden", whether or not anyone could. --- The truth basks in scrutiny. http://i.imgur.com/GMouTGs.jpg http://projecteuler.net/profile/Sahuagin.png ... It wouldn't run windows, but I built an 6052 computer (NES, Commodore, Apple, etc.). It took several weeks to do it - I didn't build each individual chip, but I did make my own PCB and solder all of the chips. I suppose if one wanted - you could build one out of only transistors, resistors, capacitors and coils, but it would probably be the size of a house or something. ... Copied to Clipboard!
