It's not a complaint that they (not Joe specifically) are consistent on...or really believe. It's just used to attack democrats. The ones who would parade this poll around would be the same ones saying how people should not be so sensitive about labels (aka snowflakes)

it's still a relatively new term that grew from the desire of others to have a classification that was more inclusive, and you're going to have some pushback from older, prevailing attitudes.

it's not like we haven't seen similar struggles in English speaking areas, and that those struggles don't still exist.

It's not a new term, it's reportedly been used since the late 90s(if Wikipedia can be trusted), people just don't like it and think it's disrespectful to the language and people.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that a not-insignificant amount of people of Latin descent are the more traditional type, and draw a strong sense of identity from their heritage; so anyone, anywhere saying or implying that the very word they use to denote said heritage is now incorrect is going to ruffle their feathers. I doubt that demographic particularly cares who coined the term, who's currently pushing it, or the actual degree to which it's being pushed - any attempt to change tradition is seen as an attack on said tradition by those most deeply rooted in it. And blame for unwelcome progressive changes is typically laid at the feet of, well, the political party that has the greater number of progressives in it.

yea, it might have been used in some circles for a while (LGBTQ+, academic, etc.), but it's still something that's relatively new for most people.

Because, according to the same Wikipedia page, among other things, it is difficult to pronounce. From my friend, he says it's like being told you're using your own language wrong.

I've yet to meet someone who speaks Spanish that actually uses it so I can't ask for their reason myself, but there ya go.

Disliking or even being offended by something 98% of people dislike, snd simply being honest when asked in a poll is not being a snowflake.

for me, it's more like, I'll refer to anyone by what they want me to, and I recognize some classifications are going to be more popular than others, and others are going to be more controversial.

That was not the argument I was making, I was making the argument that calling anybody a snowflake is generally unproductive and also inaccurate unless the person is making demands.

It is slightly annoying. A thing prescribed to a group that, by and large, doesn't want it and didn't ask for it, which is distinct from the other recently modern socially-relevant terminology, which is groups with poor recognition making a name for themselves.

Like, Latinx would include me, but I don't want to be called that, and neither do the majority of Latino people.

Tribal identity (Cherokee, Sioux, etc). If tribe is unknown, "first people"

If you can't use either of them for some reason, Indian is preferred more commonly than Native American.

A lot of activists prefer GSM

I also like this term because LGBTQ feels exclusionary hence why it always keeps popping up with new letters from time to time. GSM includes essentially everyone and is future proof.
