Not the biggest fan of the genre here. I've always wondered how anyone get obsessed with this franchise especially adults, so I wanna try something not too old but also doesn't requires hours and hours of watch time. I picked Rogue One. I finished the film in one sitting but I was utterly bored. The Vader scene was great but that's about it.

Same for the han solo movie. Easily the most overrated SW movie ever.

I have to agree with this. A reality where we only ever get what we ask for is bereft of surprise and creativity, and filled with nothing but lame Kickstarter knockoffs. Plus whenever I hear the 'no one asked for this' line, I always think of those types of spoiled-rotten kids who stopped believing in Santa the instant they didn't get exactly what they wanted for Christmas.

There was no emotion in the character deaths. They were simply deaths of convenience. And they were done because they thought the audience were idiots and couldn't figure out that maybe two soldiers could be in the same war without ever crossing paths.

I felt insulted.

What's even worse is that Jyn was an awesome character while Rey was pretty much worthless. Jyn was the protagonist we needed for the sequel trilogy. They kept the bathwater and threw out the baby.

The movie doesn't get points for giving dramatic deaths to characters it barely spent time developing

Like they all start dropping like flies in act 3 but there's no reason for me to care because the movie spent no time fleshing them out.

I barely remember anything about it besides the end scenes and to me they didn't hold up the rest of the movie. Seemed like there were too many "remember this?" parts in it too. Seemed very obvious and made me enjoy the movie less. It seems like a movie catered to a certain part of the SW fandom. The ones who wanted a gritty war movie. The ones who wanted it to be rated R. The ones who wanted more action. Not saying everyone who enjoyed it is like that, but the movie really makes me think of those kind of fans especially the end battle and super especially the Vader scene.

Might be the only one I've ever seen start to finish. Didn't watch the others when i was a kid. But I saw this one in theaters with this girl. Holy shit I was embarrassed because she would not shut the fuck up while the movie was playing. She wasn't even whispering either. People kept looking at us. I kept trying to do short answers so she wouldn't have much to respond to.

For me the final act is what soured me on the movie. It becomes obvious early on that everyone in the protagonists group is going to die. A tired old trope.

If people like that ending, that's fine.

But it wasn't necessary. The 1978 movie existed for decades without telling us who won the first victory for the rebels or why we don't see them throughout the rest of the series. It's a series about an intergalactic war which likely has millions of participants. There are people who would have died of old age without ever laying eyes on our heroes from the first trilogy.

Disney killed off all the old guard of Star Wars and is likely to kill off the remaining old guard of the MCU little by little. Every horror movie or thought-provoking post-apocalyptic drama thinks they're the first one to have the brass to kill the main cast. It's nothing new.
