I don't understand what you mean by arbitrary? Things should be well defined. If I want to brush my teeth I scrub all teeth so they can all be clean. If I want to make a sandwich I need to cut the crust because I do not like it. If I want money I work. Nothing ambiguous.

For the second question, your life has purpose so what you do has purpose? I legit don't understand doomer mentality.
