People living in the same country, sometimes even the same state and county, can have radically different views from one another on virtually every topic?

Almost as if they are just watching a completely different movie than you are?

If that isn't programming and division by design I don't even know what is.

Do you take time to research opposing viewpoints and sources, (like with the Rittenhouse case for example) or do you frequent the same sites, and/or whatever news stories come up on your phone?

I know alot of people choose to just not even get involved in politics and current events but it seems important now more than ever to do your own research and not go with the hive.

Not trying to sound holier than thou or "woke" here either, as this is something I'm also trying very hard to do. The algorithms have just made it so much easier to lazily get outraged about the same things over and over again.

God help us when these algorithms become sentient

Dude just because I get reported by miserable people on here for sharing not even that unpopular opinions, doesn't mean that what I said in this topic is not true.

Hell, me getting constantly reported for minor nonsense is part of what I'm talking about. People went from disagreeing with opinions, to labelling them as outright "dangerous".

Who said I was mad? I just think it's fascinating how divided it has become.

Until I was accused in this topic of being a constantly modded, conspiracy theory dipshit (which isn't even true) I never even got on the topic of other people specifically not liking what I say.

I even said I'm guilty myself of reacting without doing research and that I'm working on it. Never once said that I was the only one doing research. I simply asked if people were taking steps to hear from opposing sides. It was a genuine question, not an accusation.

People can still have different personalities, be raised with different values, live through different individual experiences, etc. It's fully expected.

With that being said, without a doubt there are active efforts to blow these differences in values out of proportion and turn people against each other based on them.

With that being said, there are some people out there who really do cross the line into asshole territory and should be excluded. And yes, such people absolutely exist on both sides (though I'd certianly note one side has a lot more of them).

^ Take care as at least some fact-checking sites are known to be biased themselves. Not generally to the point where they'll outright lie, but often, they'll be more inclined to go for a "plausible" than "true" on a fact that's not convenient to them for example, or they'll skip the fact check altogether on matters where the answer isn't favorable (and just not report on that one), etc.

As usual, the best way to deal with this is to not exclusively rely on a single source in the first place.

Maybe because fighting amongst ourselves keeps us clicking on clickbait articles and engaging in comment wars instead of actually uniting together and keeping tabs on what the government is actually doing.

The government has convinced us for a very long time that they have a magic button that they can press to make all of our problems go away. Now we've gotten wise and have access to information, and have started to realize that the government isn't all powerful and doesn't actually have that button.

Instead of admitting that and sacrificing a bit of their power, they decide to sell us a lie. "Yeah, we could press this button and fix it, but, your neighbor. He won't let us press it. Until we get rid of these white supremacists/far left snowflakes, we can't press the button. Deal with them."

So we're all at each other's throats while they continue to steal millions of dollars from us.
