Or is that not a good idea?

Do you work from home?

Otherwise definitely a terrible idea, they shouldn't be alone for more than four hours ideally, and need at least an hour of exercise a day, ideally two

They're conscious beings that become members of your family, not some wild animal that lives alongside you

Depends on how long you're out at work since full-time varies from company to company If you're working a demanding job and you're legitimately out of the house from like 8am to 6pm then no, don't get a dog. They need more socialization than that.

If you think it'll only be home alone a max of like 5 or 6 hours, then that works probably work fine.

cat is better. unless have someone check up on the dog during the day.
my contribution on a daily basis: 2 of 30 min walks. maybe a 10 min bathroom break. she sleeps most of the day but love that dog even if it's gotten very old (she's a grandma dog).

used to be plenty more active. could take her on an hour beach walk and still wanted more.

I think it would be very selfish if you had a dog while working full time. Especially if you don't have a yard.

If you're legitimately going to put in the work to train the dog, then it will be okay. Trained dogs are happy dogs and they can be just fine if left alone for hours. If you don't have a yard, you should probably come home during lunch and let the dog out to use the restroom.

Spend plenty of time with the dog before you leave for work and when you come home for the evening.

Don't be that person who doesn't put in the work to train an animal (which, unfortunately applies to many dog owners). It takes time and dedication. If you can't provide that, I wouldn't bother. Some people who are able to stay at home often shouldn't even have a dog because they don't want to put in any actual work to train it. They just let it jump on people, bark all day, scratch up doors if left outside for even a few minutes, etc---a real big pet peeve of mine.

Raise the dog with a cat so that the puppy has company. Or get one of those dog sitters.

this guy is mostly right

however i will say, wut about adopting a rescue dog? one that is old/in mid-life and is used to having somewhere 2 lounge around

tink about it, d00d. that dog might not get 2 spend all day with u, but maybe he is used 2 it, and hanging out at ur house is better than hanging out in a kennel/cage in an adoption center

so, the real answer is that there r dogs out there that r a good match 4 every1.
