Houston man sentenced to more than 9 years in prison for getting nearly $1.6M in PPP loans and spending it on Lamborghini, strip clubs

"The Houston man accused of going on a shopping spree after receiving more than $1.6 million from the Small Business Associations Paycheck Protection Program has been sentenced to 110 months in prison, the U.S. Justice Department announced Monday.

According to court documents, 30-year-old Lee Price III pleaded guilty in September to charges of wire fraud and money laundering, submitting fraudulent PPP loan applications to two different lenders on behalf of three businesses: 713 Construction LLC, Price Enterprises Holdings LLC, and Price Logistic Services LLC.

Through these loan applications, Price sought over $2.6 million and actually obtained over $1.6 million in PPP loan funds. Court documents said Price falsely reported the number of employees and payroll expenses in each of the PPP loan applications.
According to the official criminal complaint against Price, he started spending that PPP money almost immediately on incredibly lavish items, including a $233,000 Lamborghini Urus, an $85,000 Ford F-350 pickup truck and a $14,000 Rolex."

This. For some reason these people can never not be scummy human garbage though. They've also got to flaunt ill gotten gains rather than put them to actual good use for their families and loved ones. I mean why do something like this that could get you put away for a long time in the first place if strippers and a fancy car is the best you can think of?

doubt it, come tax time the IRS will be checking PPP loans vs number of employees/payroll expenses anyway.

this guy just gave them some very big red flags

People have been scamming California unemployment over a year now.

It's always a gamble when it comes to the IRS catching anything. Majority of the people who get caught when laying low are usually when IRS does a random ass audit on an individual or company. Otherwise, if you know how the IRS works, you can usually cook the books or cheat the system.

It is most likely punitive damages, only because the PPP loan is a new thing amd they want to make an example of this guy.

I don't know that $1.6 mil is enough to leave the country. Even $10 mil I think would be a problem just because it'd be hard to leave your native country permanently if you didn't already know about the place, imo.

I work at a bank and saw quite a bit of PPP fraud.

Random person out of their footprint: Multi thousand $ withdrawal please.
Me: Alright sure *looks* I see this was from the SBA into a personal account.
Them: Uh huhyeah.
Me: Whats it for? / Whats your business? / Etc
Them: *blank stare* / I dont know. / Its for someone else.

Its usually inner city people. Who knows maybe they themselves are in bad shape and resorting to crime? But sometimes its well off people. One lady was cashing it all into Bitcoin though from my investigations it seemed more apparent she was an unwitting mule.

People are scum. Meanwhile legit businesses going under and struggling.

Doubtful. The SBA has really cracked down on the initial loan calculations. Ive had clients who had to repay a portion of their loan because they miscalculated their max loan amount. So even if got through the initial loan process, the SBA would be on their asses by now.
