This is a good one! I remember seeing a youtube video of a guy who edited the movie to make it look like the movie ended there with them all dying. He then showed it to his parents who hadn't seen the movie yet. Their reaction was hilarious.

So many scenes like this are shit because they're often lazy. I mean, Toy Story 3's is kinda bad. Scene good, rescue just a deus ex callback.

Battle for Helm's Deep is what first came to mind. LotR did these scenes well, but I think Boromir's redemption is probably the best one.

The Han Solo one just posted is also really good because it's not like, huge stakes. It's not a massive deus ex machina, it's just a quick little redemption moment after Vader gets Luke in his sights.

I can pretty clearly think of my least favorite (from Lost, Kate's "I saved a bullet for you!"), but favorite... hmm...

Coming to mind are...
- Breaking Bad Season 3 (Walt saves Jesse)
- Almost anything in The Stormlight Archives (from Way of Kings, Kal & Bridge Four return; from Words of Radiance, Syl saves Kaladin who saves the king;from Edgedancer, Lift listens to Darkness; and pretty much anything in Oathbreaker really)
- Dragonball Z (Vegeta during the beam battle)

Asked a coworker this question. Though he couldn't come up with a 'saved at the last second,' he gave a brilliant opposite with 'destroyed at the last second: On Her Majesty's Secret Service

alright I immediately had a similar thought to Han but Sanderson's actually are done very well in general. helps that the good ones are a result of entire arcs of build-up instead of of cheap tension building

oh, for the worst examples, every time the line "that won't be necessary" is said in trails of cold steel (so far on my replay we're 3/3 of it appearing in a chapter ending, and it only gets worse)

I had forgotten!

There really is just so much in WoR and Oathbreaker and I read in such big chunks that a lot is a blur. I knew for certain Syl's return was a last minute save and so so good, but I'm completely blanking on how and when Kal's return to the Shattered Plains happens aside from going off to battle Szeth.

In my head, it's less a 'saved at last second' and more 'big damn heroes' moment where everyone is finally together for the big group battle. ...Though that would also qualify "On your left" so they can definitely be both
