I don't remember since i haven't touched the game in over a decade and I only played a couple months, but not war. I literally never played melee in MMOs.

i had heard that pulls could be made into something of an art in ffxi. and that really interested me because one of the reasons i liked brewmaster in WoW so much was because i had a teleport, a totem that pulsed aggro, and a ranged stun. i could do nifty pulls.

mobs didn't lose aggro, so a group that could crowd control and a puller that wouldn't link other groups were *chef kiss"

or you could be a dickbutt like me and MPK other groups by pulling aggro mobs and dying

i mained Hunter in early WoW, and was fuckin pro at kiting. Could keep at least 3 mobs locked up indefinitely. that's where xi shined, it had literal support classes, designed to do this job

My guildmaster literally bought a robocall thing so he could ring everyone's phone when HNM's popped.

Whenever Tiamat or Jormungand spawned, he'd hit the "Batphone" and everyone offline would get the call and login. Most people online leveled together, so they'd just stop fighting, CC the mob, and teleport since the healer would always be a White Mage or have WHM high enough as a subjob to teleport. My guildmaster worked from home, so he'd literally camp mobs that take 3-5 days to spawn.

Far as Nidhogg go, I fell asleep during that one camp and woke up to see the White Mage got the Adamant Hauberk that would've been mine. Damn man, that one hurt.
