Then try to dispose of the body and attempt to continue living a normal life before they're inevitably caught.

I watch too many true crime videos, and this seems to be the most common thing they touch on. A lot of these people don't sound too bright and they get cause fairly quickly. But then you get those whose murders go unsolved for a while before they're caught. Could you imagine trying to lead a normal life knowing that there's a body out there somewhere that you're responsible for that someone could randomly stumble across at any time?

dunno most of them probably have something a bit off in the head if they murder someone in the first place. Lack of empathy or something that probably allows them to deal with it easier than "normal" people.

This reminds of the woman who murdered her sister and told everyone she ran off with a man and cut all ties. She kept the sliced up body in a freezer at her home for years until it was randomly discovered.

I'd imagine that after a while, they'd assume "yeah, I've definitely gotten away with it" and probably stop thinking about it unless it specifically comes up.

They don't think. It's like their animal instinct just takes over.

Most of them do it for the power dynamic. Evading police for years also adds to it. One of my professors interviewed Dennis Rader and the reason he got caught after 30+ years was because someone wrote a book about him that made him upset so he started taunting police.

Or if you're the Mexican, or Chinese cartel, you just dissolve the body away, or probably sell it off to the meat market

That was the one where the family also tried to cover it up too, right?

This came to mind after I got done listening to a case that happened back in the mid 80's, but they didn't get the guy until a couple of years ago in 2019. It seemed like dude was on edge about it his whole life from that point and when the case eventually found its way to him, he pretty much inadvertently gave himself away with the the things he was saying. That's probably some next level anxiety he's been going through for decades.
