Most of us know that Kyle Rittenhouse is, formally, not guilty on all counts. Here is what I want y'all to tell the truth on.

Are you more likely to go to public places now? Does this make you safer? Are you going to spend more time in your front yard, more time in the park?

This incident isn't worse than previous ones that caused riots.

And let's be honest, the people looting don't give a fuck what happened. They are just taking advantage of the commotion.

And Gavin Newsom made looting so much easier by only giving misdemeanors to thief's that steal less than $900. And criminals have just gotten smarter by just robbing high end stores like Louis Vuitton by the dozens, while security guards can't do shit. Can't touch them or anything.

It is true that looters do not care about politics. I meant long term safety though.

Even if you carry a gun at all times and are always ready to use it, any life/death situation is more likely to have you at the end of the barrel rather than being the one controlling the trigger. This stochastic position seems likely to make you fair game than it would enable you to protect yourself.

I'm not worried about the Kyle Rittenhouses of the world at all. I'm worried about the Dylann Roofs of the world. And those guys aren't going to be swayed by a court's decision one way or another.

it doesn't make me feel personally less safe, because i live in an area where there haven't been any riots or alt right vigilantism or any craziness of that sort, but it makes me fear for the nation and its future as a whole. a verdict like this is only going to lead to more occurrences of and more emboldened vigilantism.

Pretty much this. I'm scared that people even more malicious than Rittenhouse was will try to use the same defense to get away with much worse.

I'm in England

No one knows who Rittenhouse is

He didn't have the same global effect as George Floyd

Oh no, more violent child molesters and arsonists might get shot as they try to attack someone?

The only thing I really "learned" (I already knew this) was not to run up and assault people, especially if they're carrying a rifle. I also learned it's a bad idea to point my own gun at them first.

I am starting to think a part of the reason this all happened was we've put such challenges in the way of the right to defend yourself the victims acted with the mindset of "he'll never actually fire the thing because he'd be the one to get in trouble". I do feel safer when we have the right to defend ourselves without extreme concern for the assailiant because the most haunting things for me in this were defenses like "it was just arson" or "everyone takes a beating sometimes".

It wasn't "moral luck." He was targeted and attacked by an arsonist nut job. It would be like you saying, "you sure are lucky that guy who tried to stab you was a bad person." That's not luck. He was a bad person who chose to do bad things. Rosenbaum was a bad person who liked to set things on fire and attack people.

Calling him just a "bad person" is giving him far, far more credit than he deserves.
