I wanted to like it but I just didn't. It tries to be Napoleon Dynamite but with Jack Black and it comes off more plodding than quirky.

Lame ass movie.
I'm guessing a studio offered the director a ton of money he couldn't refuse to "do the thing just like Napoleon Dynamite and we'll give you Jack Black!" and he went on ahead from there.
