I walked away with the assumption that there would be another movie because a number of things weren't fully explained.

The movie only covers apparently the first half of the first book. I've never read the books though. But I watched it with someone who is reading the book and they had just reach about midway when we watch the movie. They told me it ended almost exactly where they were currently in the book

We've seen what an incomprehensible mess Dune is when they try and do it in one film, hell the most faithful version before this one needed 5 hours to cover the plot in a coherent manner and still left a bunch of stuff out.

The movie pretty much covers the entire first book pretty accurately too

Of course they made at least one character who was a man into a woman because that's how Hollywood does things these days.

We also were missing a few events such as the dinner with the guild members, the fremens first battle with the sardekaar, and nothing of Dr kinds struggle in the desert. Also there is absolutely no mention of the word mentat. Maybe they could have bothered to tell us that Paul had mentat training. We never saw lady Jessica being suspected as the traitor, actually actually there was zero speculation on who the trader was despite the fact that they knew there was a traitor amongst them. No mention of the barons nephew who he was so fond of. In fact there was little coverage of the baron at all. No mention that Duncan Idaho went to go live with the Fremen.

it was a okay movie, not bad just not something I really got hyped for.
