And they're at the point already where they are outside the house and the decoy waves for them to come in, if they exit the car but change their mind before approaching the house and then enter their car and leave, are they still busted?

I made another topic about one of my former managers getting busted for trying to meet a 14 year old (decoy) and im just curious having seen Chris Hansen's shows if they get arrested BECAUSE they walk into the house or if they're fucked once they arrive at all

And for the person who will inevitably say that they're fucked either way, do the charges double once they walk into the house? Or are they just as screwed regardless?

I think arranging the meeting at all is a crime, right? Even if he doesn't go into the house.

It should be noted that most of the guys busted on Chris Hansen's show had their charges dropped because of how the stings were conducted.

I think so? I feel like this happened before on an episode and the police still went after him. Even if they don't enter the house, they still drove to it and showed intent. I think they mostly just want them to come in because its more interesting on TV

I think they are screwed either way.
The fact that they showed up with "intention" to do something malicious is all that matters, despite that they backed out.

I added the quote markers on intention, because that's something that the prosecutor could argue in court, something the defendant cannot refute as it is considered irrefutable evidence.

It's a crime once they agree to meet. Although, the police might lose the case depending on how they set it up. I think it could be entrapment or something similar.

They still arranged the meeting and sent pics or naughty chats to them though.

I remember seeing an episode of Chris Hansen where as soon as Chris Hansen walked in, the guy immediately BOLTED out the house and the cops just tackled him lol. Dude was probably waiting for it >_>

I have no idea. But at that point, the pedo is on law enforcements radar, so they'll get caught eventually.

I think its the other way around actually. There was one sting in texas where the judge threw out all cases on that sting. But they had a very high conviction rate. What i find funny is how the beach bum was able to beat the charges but dr. wolin couldnt. They were on the same sting iirc.

Are we talking about the catch a predator? If so, that's not true. Lots of predators from the show got convicted. You might be thinking of the Murphy, Texas thing where the assistant DA killed himself. In that sting, all of the predators were let go. But that was just one sting.

I usually just tell folks to read the chatlogs on perverted justice. Most of those guys hang themselves by talking sexually to minors first

i imagine some of them turn back because they sense that it's a setup. if that ever happens then they should still be arrested

To answer your question TC, I believe it depends on the state the Predator lives in.

In some states like texas, the crime is committed as soon as the conversation happens. The Predator doesn't have to show up anywhere, he has already broke the law.

However, in Massachusetts, the law is a little different. There was a predator that Perverted Justice tried to catch, they were talking to the predators for weeks, but he wouldn't show up to any sting house, so they were not able to arrest him. So it seems like it's a little bit more lenient in Massachusetts.
