I watched it with friends recently and noticed that the first 20 minutes or so is pretty joyless when it's showing everyone disconnected and struggling. It wasn't a great film, but it nonetheless has a secure place in pop culture. On the other hand, doesn't Ghostbusters II have some weird licensing issues that make it incredibly difficult to make money from? Tom Clark 11/17/21 6:25:00 AM #18:	The main issue I have with it (although I do still really enjoy it) is that it's very much a beat-by-beat replay of the first: ~~Ghostbusters start off down-and-out~~ ~~Spooky threat starts to materialise~~ ~~Dana becomes a target~~ ~~Set piece with the Ghostbusters - but not Winston - trapping a ghost then getting public recognition~~ ~~Goofy guy with a crush on Dana falls under the thrall of the big bad~~ ~~Ghostbusting montage~~ ~~Discovery that there are so many ghosts because of the big bad~~ ~~Obstructive dickhead has the team locked up~~ ~~Location most associated with Dana becomes supernaturally altered~~ ~~Ghostbusters are released and brought to see the mayor before being told to save the day~~ ~~Climax involves a giant icon walking through New York~~ ~~The Ghostbusters win and with Dana and her comic relief stalker meet the adoring crowd while covered in gunk~~ That breakdown could describe either film perfectly (although the "giant icon" in the first film was made up for the movie, while it's obviously something real in the second.) I cant think of any movie sequels from that era that diverged so heavily from the first one.
