Why does the US have such a hard on for Israel? This has baffled me for so long. Is it because the Israelis have influence in the higher levels of the US Government? That's the only reason I can think of.

I think it has to do with the second coming. A religious reason.

They produce the majority of our hacking software as well as our security and anti-virus on the federal level, which we have basically outsourced because we aren't competitive within that market as we should be.

We unconditionally support Israel, and they in turn scramble centrifuges in the area when a country like Iran or Iraq gets closer to nuclear weapons than we as a country would like. We value them because of their geopolitical position in that region, so why would we(as a country, not as individuals) ever support a policy that weakens them when we are entirely reliant upon them from that perspective?

And that's why the US supports Israel. We also use them as a proxy so that we "technically" aren't spying on our citizens or our allies, Israel is, and then we simply exchange information with them on a regular basis.

Am I missing something?

New York has the highest Jewish population outside of Isreal.
Also, Burlington VT is effectively a bordering city.

Israel is the wedge America has in the Middle East, for one thing.

that's really fucking stupid if true

@ThyCorndog

You can find this in a pdf called "bid invitation" located here
https://shermanisd.ionwave.net/PublicDetail.aspx?bidID=71&ret=OPEN&pg=0&bidNumber=&title=&type=&org=

This is just one example, a lot of them have these kind of clauses. I think it's usually red states.

If anyone is curious, this is a bid for:
"general teaching aids, classroom supplies, equipment (equipment does include technology products such as laptops/tablets and audio visual equipment), Career and Tech Education (CATE) products, special education products, non-state adopted textbooks, math manipulatives, curriculum materials and online content, reading/bilingual reading materials, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Languages Other than English (LOTE), social studies, scientific and laboratory supplies, and Art supplies. This bid seeks qualified vendors offering discounts off of catalog prices, published prices, or fair market value."

Oh hey here's another Texas one I just found!
Can't boycott Israel, must boycott Iran and Sudan, and you can't work with anyone who has anything to do with abortion.
Again, this is for a contract to provide services to a school in Texas.
@ThyCorndog I'm tagging you again because it's relevant, let me know if I should stop.

while I think Ben And Jerry's is free to do what it wants, this is a bunch of nonsense

In its announcement, Ben & Jerry's explicitly said it was not boycotting Israel, but only ceasing sales in Palestinian territories occupied illegally under international law, stating "the sale of ice cream in Occupied Palestinian Territory is inconsistent with our values".

nonsense. you are boycotting Israel according to the law because of the simple fact that the US does not recognize Palestine. it does matter if you do.

The law shouldn't have anything to do with boycotts in the first place.

and that's fine. but be that as it may, I don't really appreciate this Chewbacca Defense stuff from Ben and Jerry's saying they are simply going by international law so that "trumps" NY state law.
uh not unless the US senate approves, that's not how our laws work...
