The service shop may as well have just told me they found so much damage during a supposedly simple repair to the gas area that it's not even worth repairing at all. I haven't been able to work properly for the last week because, where I live, a car is virtually essential to get anywhere. I haven't seriously been in the car market in like, 15 years.
I don't know what the current car market is like, and I have no concept of the relative value of cars. I can afford new, but it'd be a significant amount of my savings, and I feel like I've heard you should go for new in like, January or February (aka after Christmas). Used cars seem to be all over the place in price for things that look virtually identical to me, and I honestly don't know how to pick out the subtle differences. I know computers, but I don't know cars at all. The four options seem to be to lease a car, buy a car, buy a slightly used car for a couple thousand less than a new one, or buy an old car (about as old as the one I'm currently using) with a fair amount of miles for like, $5-7,000 and hope it holds up long enough to make it worth it. Like, what's the best way to pursue a car right now? I could use some insight, and if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated. --- So a planet's somewhere out there, their history the same as ours is written. The only difference is that... It's a bad time to need a car right now, unfortunately. Severe supply chain shortages have really messed the market up.
Usually my advice would be to buy used, but in current conditions I no longer feel qualified to say that. --- rip imgcake ... Copied to Clipboard!

I work in the car business (as IT, but Im in rooms while deals happen every day), and most dealers are unapologetically selling cars for up to 50% over MSRP.

Do you know exactly what's wrong with the car? Maybe take to another mechanic for a second opinion?
