I went in wanting to hate it but... I actually think it's fun. As someone who loved TWEWY and hates modern Square Enix of the past like, 10+ years, I didn't think the sequel could be anywhere near as fun as the original.

So far the music is catchy and the pin gameplay is a'ight.

Idk how far the demo goes, but the game play improves significantly when you get 4 pins active. And of course playing with different pins and whatnot is a lot of fun.

I'm also a big fan of the food stat system.

It's really good. Would recommend.

It's also really confusing. I have no idea how they expected the game to make money...a direct sequel to a game that didn't sell great. There's a ton of innovation and cool mechanics, but nothing to attract and draw in players who didn't play the first game.

I love the music in the game and I think they did a great job at reinventing the weird gameplay of the DS for modern controls. It's a super underrated game

Got a huge wave of nostalgia from the soundtrack, recognized some remixes of some familiar favorites.

IIRC they had been wanting to make a sequel for years, and when the anime started production Nomura went all "eh screw it, we'll never get another chance if we pass this one up".

Etiher way, I prefer the original a bit, but this is still a more than worthy sequel

Oh wow. Honestly... I might buy it. Not only is the writing surprisingly sharp and made me laugh a couple of times, but I found myself becoming invested in the story and characters.

And oh my god they teased Neku! I squeeed so hard

Do it! You won't regret it. Plus the soundtrack is on par with the original

Did you at least look at the developers who worked on the game? The main Square staff returned for the sequel.

This demo actually made me want to buy the game. I remember a post once saying that video game demos are so rare because there was some statistic video game companies bring up that says that they don't contribute to sales and if anything detract from them for reasons, but this demo disproves that if anything and it surprised and made me want to buy it to A) carry over my save data and all those pins I've been leveling up and B) continue with the story.

I already like the new protagonist and his friend and can't wait to see some familiar faces. Part of me wants to bust out my DS to just replay a little of The World Ends With You just to re-familiarize myself with all the reapers but the nostalgia might make me cry

Maybe you could watch the anime as a refresher instead. Also, watch the cutscenes from A New Day from the final remix version, since it does tie into neo

So... which version? For the record this demo was ps4.

I will say it seems there's a bit of load times unfortunately with battles, it could be a couple seconds faster preferably. I tried the ps4 version since I heard it has better load times than the Switch version and when in doubt, I always go for the better performance when it comes to multi-plat (so typically ps4)

Maybe I will, maybe I will. Didn't know it even had an anime. And what is this final remix/new day thing? Is it like how Kingdom Hearts games used to have a Final Mix version?

While modern Square Enix is a shadow of their former selves they can still make the occasional good game. Mainly smaller budget games that feel closer to what they use to make.

The Switch version of TWEWY has an epilogue called that somewhat sets up things for TWEWY. It's very short. You'd be better off just watching the cutscenes online tbh

Final Remix is the switch version of the original. The gameplay is kinda awkward due to one screen tho, so yeah just watch the cutscenes. The anime is a distilled adaptation, but it's still pretty good on its own way

I actually don't think final remix is such a bad version. I would say watch the anime as you play the game for a refresher (the anime is supposed to be kind of bad if you haven't played the game, but the major events are depicted). Mostly to not break the momentum you already have in this game.

The New Day stuff is not all that important. Might be worth watching the scenes though since it sets up a couple elements in the story.

As for certain, the Switch has a pretty variable frame rate in places. It's pretty playable, but if you tolerance for variable performance is low it may not be good. I usually can't stand it, but something about this game (and Hyrule Warriors DE on Switch) made me not mind it so much.

Also the load additional second or two of load time applies to literally everything. Dialogue pop ups, battle transitions, area transitions, whatever. Expect a couple extra seconds everywhere. Whether it gets in your nerves is a personal thing. It didn't bother me, but if it bothered me a little it really would have added up.

But portable is nice so
