US rapper Travis Scott is facing legal action after at least eight people were killed and hundreds injured in a crush at his Texas festival Astroworld.
One injured concertgoer has accused Scott and surprise performer Drake of inciting the crowd, and is seeking $1m (741,000) in damages.
Neither have commented on the lawsuit.
In a statement following the crush, Scott said he was working to help the families of the victims - the youngest of whom was just 14.

What do the lawsuits say?
One suit filed by 23-year-old attendee Kristian Paredes accuses Scott and Drake of inciting "a riot and violence", and claims the venue and entertainment company Live Nation failed to provide adequate security and medical services.
The suit, seeking $1m in damages, says Mr Paredes "felt an immediate push" at the front of the general admission section, before "the crowd became chaotic and a stampede began".
"Many begged security guards hired by Live Nation Entertainment for help, but were ignored," it adds.
Mr Paredes is described as having suffered "severe bodily injuries".
Scott, Live Nation and concert promoter Scoremore are also named in another suit seeking $1m in damages for Manuel Souza. Mr Souza is described as having suffered "serious bodily injuries when the uncontrolled crowd at the concert knocked him to the ground and trampled him".
Live Nation has not yet commented on the lawsuits but has said it is "working to provide as much information and assistance as possible to the local authorities as they investigate".

iirc, there were ~300 injured and 8 dead. This lawsuit is just from 1 person.

Imagine if everything was said and done, the injured/deceased parties were awarded 300 mil+

Seriously doubt it will get anywhere near high enough to hurt them. Rich get slaps on the wrist with pocket change fines and settlements.

Personally I dont know how they could sue Drake if he was just a surprise guest and did not assist in the set up of the event or anything.

Scott should be sued to oblivion tho

Tech N9ne got sued years ago for something similar and he wasn't even on-stage, didn't occur during his set whatsoever and he still had to pay up. Even sent flowers etc to her hospital room and offered to help with expenses: she still sued.

Not only stopped the show, but directed his audience to "fuck him up". Apparently not the first time he told his fans to physically assault someone.

I dont see how Travis doesnt get found responsible in some capacity. He has already plead guilty to reckless conduct charges for encouraging fans to rush the stage at multiple concerts in the past

he has a clear history of this

The people who own these venues need to be sued as well.

They need to set up barriers that prevent this kind of thing from ever happening again. Also need to enforce social distancing and mask wearing at these events.

Your shitty concert music and "experience" isn't worth the risk to folx

Unfortunately the justice system is just a game with a huge advantage for the rich and famous. And if they cant win, they'll just drag the process out til you are broke and cant continue the legal battle anymore.

I really dont understand why everyone is blaming the artists and not holding fans accountable whatsoever. You see someone fall next to you then help them up. Completely ridiculous to blame this on one man.

People go to these concerts and act like theyve lost their minds. Houston PD also said a security guard was pricked in the neck with something and had to be administered Narcan.

Travis Scott could have stopped the show earlier but fans also need to be held accountable. Perfectly reasonable to think he didnt really know the scope of the situation while performing live. Theres also video footage of him seeing someone passed out and saying Hey stop help them up.

Mob mentality bullshit.

I'm not really familiar with concerts, but is this something that is actually particularly preventable in a normal concert venue that doesn't have built in sturdy barriers? It's not like temporary barriers would stop a bunch of idiots from rushing a stage, and no amount of security could stop hundreds or thousands of people from rushing forward.

It's the promoters job to make sure these events are safe. The artists or the venues probably won't be hit with much here.

If anything, it's Live Nation and the local promoter that should be sued. They are responsible for the safety and security.

People are delusional. Theres videos of people at a Playboi Carti concert destroying barriers before they even got in. That show got cancelled but regardless people do stupid shit at these events.

To put the blame solely on the artist is ridiculous. Even if he stopped the show these people were already injured due to their own actions or actions of people around them.

Because he kept the show going, people were blocking and dancing on top of the ambulance carts that were trying to make their way to the injured/dead people. It's delusional to think that him keeping the show going or stopping it wouldn't have made a significant impact on how the crowd acted. Is he solely to blame? No, but he's just as responsible as the promoters/show runners.

Makes me think of being in circle pits, mosh pits, walls of death, etc. At metal gigs and no one gets hurt (at least not seriously). Difference there is everyone is super chill and safety aware and not just rushing for the hell of it.

that crowd rush is pretty common for festivals as it gets closer to the main act.

especially when you have no control over security and vip.

the problem is when one person at the front falls, the mob of people doesn't see that, they just see an open space they think they can move forward into. and then more people fall, more squish forward, etc etc

one story said there was literally a whole layer of people on the ground near the front of the stage getting walked on
