Sorry if this isnt the right board for this topic but I'm freaking out.
I recently started a job at Wal-Mart and I accidentally have been selling ammo without realizing people need a permit to buy. The first time I sold one of my supervisors was there and she didnt explain that people needed a permit. She just told me to ring them up after getting their birthday so I never realized I should be looking at their permit. Now I am stupid because after you get their birthday the register does say permit required but at the time she just waved it away so I figured it didnt mean anything. Again yes I'm stupid. So from then on ive just been asking for id. I'm pretty sure most people have been showing their permit cards from what i recall but what if they havent? What if I forgot if someone just showed me an id? Did I commit a crime? --- "He's dead! I love him.... Oh he's breathing.... Loser!" ... Copied to Clipboard!

You screwed up but I wouldn't sweat it that hard. Kind of like selling booze without IDing, it's pretty unlikely you sold to someone without a license. Still, it's obviously better to be IDing as required, which the legality of depends by State.

Maybe. I would try to actually clarify with the person in charge of the store or department what the actual law and rule is
I for sure would stop doing it without clarification, cause then youd for sure be heading into what could be criminal negligence --- Proud B Student ... Copied to Clipboard!

The supervisor should've known better, but ignorance of the law doesn't make it not a crime. Don't worry about it, TC. Nothing will come up of this, and if something does, just throw your supervisor under the bus. I know I should have been smarter but damn I was so overwhelmed by everything and they barely train you at Wal-Mart that it was hard for me to process what was happening. --- "He's dead! I'm kind of surprised there are no edits built into the checkout process to enforce this when selling those products. They already do that with other products like allergy medication at the pharmacy. The store generally gets fined too for these kinds of things and multiple offenses could get their license pulled, so it is in their best interest to enforce compliance.

Are you just a cashier and someone pays at you? I used to work at a hardware store that sold ammo and I would be the one who would get the ammo out of the lock up and at that point we would verify a license before handing it to them and it wouldnt fall on the cashier but Im not really sure how they would go through the process there.

Technically yes, but because you are the lowest person in the chain and it's a massive chain where you weren't properly shown the rules chances are at worst you'll be fired to cover the stores ass and the supervisor will either be written up or fired as well.
Most likely scenario is that nothing ever happens and no one even knows or cares what you did. ... Copied to Clipboard!
