So I had to take a few liberties with the title because 80 characters, so let me just make some disclaimers:

1. The only thing that indicated that it was "LGBTQ+ Friendly" was the Google listing, so on one hand, obviously the hairdresser doesn't even have to acknowledge that because a customer might have just posted that.
2. It wasn't even really a "salon," because I just moved to a smallish city out in the country and I wanted the closest place (and I'm terrified of driving where I'm unfamiliar.) The closest place happened to be a "salon" that was literally just the lady's sunroom, the place between the front screen door and the actual house. So on the other hand, because it's not a real """establishment""" and it's just a house with some salon furnishings, who even cares.
3. But on the third, deformed mutant hand that I keep out of sight, if your only social media/website listing is a Google Maps page, I feel like you'd take whatever "LGTBQ+ Friendly" vibe that a customer put on seriously, and remove it if it wasn't.

Now, I didn't go there because it was LGBTQ+ Friendly, but it did inform my decision. Again, I went there because it was close and I wanted a cut today, and if I meet someone in the local LGBTQ+ community, especially considering I just moved here, that would definitely be a plus!

The only reason I'm even making this topic because I just thought it was kind of like, what's the word, strangely amusing? I wasn't really offended by Chappelle's standup, and I had seen it before a couple weeks ago. I thought I was gonna get a haircut by a flamboyant lesbian, but when I sat down, this youngish lady just turned the laptop on that was kinda beside me, and turned on the special. I think she was watching something else when I came in, GoT or The Witcher or something like that. She didn't even acknowledge it really until like five minutes into the special, when she was like "oh I just turned this on." She didn't ask if I minded, she didn't apologize (not that she had to, I guess), and just kinda laughed a bit at some of the jokes.

I was a bit uncomfortable because I just wanted a haircut and I had to sit and listen to a comedian talk about some pretty vulgar stuff, (that bit with the priest, and the other with the glory hole, while funny, not something I want to watch in an intimate setting with someone else who I literally just met and has scissors in their hand.)

It was just a strangely amusing experience.

Those Google tags are bullshit

Recently I was looking for a female optometrist because I've never met a lady optometrist before. and curious if they even existed. When I googled "lady optometrists" I got a list of what Google had tagged as women run businesses. But it was shit like Steven Carson Optometry or some other obviously male name.
