The owner of a Portland Cookie Star was assaulted while trying to enforce a mask mandate against 2 anti-maskers!!

Owner, Deirdre Steirpe was taken to hospital for cuts and bruises when a couple of Trailer Trash walked with 34 y/o "Ken" Rickie Scott Collin and 44 y/o "Karen" Amy Verlee Hall walked in demanding they be served when she asked them to leave without a mask.

The duo live streamed it on Youtube as they walk into Crumb Together saying he's heard reports of her chasing anti-maskers out the door with a baseball bat as the owner is heard saying they can't be in here without masks on.

Then the man says businesses have to serve the public as she points the door for them to leave. When she gets closer to try to get them to leave, the woman shoves her which then leads the owner to go behind the counter to get a bat and that's when the heifer, Amy starts grabbing the bat away from her and the 2 go at it with Deidre on the ground screaming and the man taking her bat away saying "That's what you get. You don't get a bat for taking our rights"

The duo then flagged down cops who took down their statements as they showed the video of the encounter but ended up arresting THEM for starting the fight and were charged with 3rd degree assault as they were outraged they were being the ones arrested when she brought out the bat to assault freedom fighters.

Deirdre said she's had enough of people choosing to be unvaccinated and not wearing masks and said "I was infuriated, i was angry, you know this has really affected our business and you know as a business owner, freedom of speech and i felt it was necessary" and that is why she put out a sign that said "Because of the unvaccinated, masks required again. Thank you for your support".

In October, conservatives hounded the business with prank calls and an anti-masker pointing a GUN in her direction while in a vehicle at one point

People are so fucking delusional. They don't have to serve them. If they pushed her first they assaulted her. So fucking bonkers and convinced that they are right they don't realize they provide evidence to get themselves arrested.

So, they went in wanting trouble as went in with cameras rolling after already being told that they needed masks in there, and knew the women had "chased anti-masker out with a bat" before. And still went in. Then thought they could assault her with repercussions for no real reason... And thought the cops would somehow take their side. When the video makes them look quote insane...

It also makes no sense because they told the police they had heard about her assaulting customers, so they went to see if they could get a coffee... I wouldn't go to a coffee shop if I heard they were assaulting customers. Because I like to not be assaulting when going places... And it's always great when they bring up laws where they don't understand them, or what they actually mean... Or how he says his GF was the one who was attacked, when they attacked her first, and have proof of that thinking it'll show something different...

I agree with BlackScythe0. They must be fucking delusional... That's all I can think of with them...

The real context to the law he's trying to recite refers to services provided by the government that are considered federally protected. Example of this would be protection against denial of enrollment into a public school. In no way does it compel a private entity (in this case cookie shop) to provide a service and they can ask you to leave their private business at their discretion and without providing a reason beyond "because I said so".

Example of this would be protection against denial of enrollment into a public school. In no way does it compel a private entity (in this case cookie shop) to provide a service and they can ask you to leave their private business at their discretion and without providing a reason beyond "because I said so".

If it wasn't for the fact they seem lacking in intelligence I'd think they were trying to use the anti-discrimination laws like the gay wedding cake stories that pop up from time to time. They would be wrong, since any business can set a dress code, but I think it would be giving them too much credit to think they had any coherent thought beyond "I definitely know what was intended by the constitution and founding fathers and the police will surely agree with me" these people are so used to being on the side of police when they do awful things they think police will be on their side when they do awful things.

As someone who works in customer service, I definitely side iwth the store owner. These people take the idea of the customer always being right too far and seem to think we're just easy to abuse because we need our jobs.

Businesses have the right to refuse services to people who do not clothe themselves properly or who violate their health/safety/hygiene standards, both of which apply in this case.

Keeping a bat to run off anti-maskers seems outlandish but considering what happened here (anti-maskers shitting on the business in order to goad more anti-maskers into fucking with the business) and the fact that the anti-maskers were the ones that got physical first, I would be willing to bet that anti-maskers are harassing this business regularly and escalated this situation repeatedly, and wouldn't be at all surprised if every single person that's been chased off via bat had gotten physical first beforehand. We have the same issue in our town.

It doesn't help that the people who you would normally call to handle kicking someone out of your establishment when they refuse to leave (the police) are not necessarily interested in enforcement in this instance.

Those people are idiots. If the owner tells u to leave and u don't u r trespassing. She was well within her right to remove them, however, doing so probably wasn't the best course of action

I meant there was probably a course of action that would have resulted in her NOT getting a beat down. But like I said she was well within her rights to remove them.

A good portion of self defense is knowing how to de-escalate a situation. Phsycially provoking a probable loose canon who was previously just trolling verbally uncesicarily escalates the situation. Espeicially when outnumbered, and calling the cops and waiting for them to arrive is a viable option for resolving the situation with no harm.

You can tell by the video that the owner never actually intended to swing that bat at anyone. She just kind of points it at the lady before having it grabbed. Never goes for a swing at any point.

Really, I'd say her only mistake was not actually bludgeoning them with it, but it ultimately worked out without her suffering major harm and she didn't have a bunch of blood to clean up, so that's alright.

She should have grabbed her bat and called the cops. Not approach the couple. Engaging further only creates the likelihood of an altercation. Considering she was outnumbered, it could have ended much worse.

If she had then it would have been much worse for her since they were unarmed. She made the correct choice.

Suggesting that there were de escalation strategies the victim could have used is not victim blaming. The attackers belong in jail but that doesn't mean there weren't other ways of handling a situation with less harm coming to oneself.

Except we dont really know if there were. They already pushed her before she had the bat. If she tried to call police, they probably would have attacked her again. You can suggest a bunch of different stuff But the problem is those people came in looking for a fight. And would have probably gotten one no matter what she did

They didn't push her until she got in their face, which escalated to the shove, which escalated to the bat which escalated to the beat down. The two were argumentative initially but not violent. The owner was well within her right to remove them, however other avenues were there that would not have resulted in her getting assaulted. Again, the 2 asaaulters are 100 percent in the wrong. De-escalation strategies are best in self defense situations,

Serves them right. Going into places just to cause trouble is dumb. Even more so just for social media. The owner is well within their rights to refuse to serve people for not following the rules the place has in place. Also having protection like a bat for people who are causing trouble is also acceptable.
