They seem surprised but at Aldi near me the milk regularly goes for 1.25 I think? I'm not even kidding. I've seen it pretty damn cheap, they have signs posted that say no more than 6 can be bought at once. It's definitely sub 2 dollars.

I don't care much for milk quality however, just care about it mixing well with protein powder and it does its job well. Also has that slight creaminess. It isn't farmer's market milk quality but then again the stuff at the grocery store will never be as good. At least the ones in my area.

I drink maybe 8 ounces of milk a week and that's for a random bowl of cereal. People really drink multiple gallons a week?

The point about inflation is good.

But yeah I am the type who drinks milk out of a glass and I rarely go through 1 gallon in a week.

Seems dumb to focus on milk prices when meat and produce prices have increased more significantly (and should be a larger percentage of ones diet)

Walmart. Just stop buying name brand shit, its all exactly the same.

Ive just been ordering groceries through Walmart+ the past couple months. Plan the next weeks meals and then order what we need for it, along with the small basic shit like milk and eggs and bread. No impulse buying and when you pick the Great Value brand for everything, most times theyre sold out because people go for the cheap shit so you get a free upgrade to name brand lol

My wife and I usually dont even go through one full gallon of milk a week and we both have a bowl of cereal every morning

Yeah, but look at the difference between the store brand and name brand in the screenshots. Store brand is almost always gonna be cheap as hell for the same product

Ok but

the tweet says $2.79 for a gallon of milk, from $1.99

Im showing the absolute dirt cheapest gallon of milk around me is $2.68, where are you getting any assumption that these obviously cost-conscious (based on the video) people arent buying the store brand

exactly

the cost of milk is almost entirely the shipping cost, which has gone way up

i live in Wisconsin so I would expect dairy to be lower cost than average compared to the rest of the country

Was on my small phone screen so could've been incorrect on "a lot" of it being name brand but the tortillas and a lot of the cereal and the brick of velveeta cheese all have Kroger versions (where they were shopping)

As far as Aldi they probably don't have one near them, there's only a couple of them in my area. Kroger is usually the cheapest option if you don't have Aldi as long as you stick to store brand stuff

Also I'm pretty sure I saw a can of Dr. Pepper on the table, Kroger has their own version of that too >_>

Not shaming them though, I occasionally splurge on stuff or the store brand won't be available and I'll just say fuck it and spend extra. With a family that big it's gotta be tough.

I mean, certain things definitely need the name brand or they arent worth buying at all

kroger brand Oreos for example are not worth the 60 cent savings or whatever

i imagine velveeta is the same since its a very specific thing

milk is different
