The exercise is designed to test US Marine Corps units prior to them being deployed overseas.

At least they got two attempts at it.

US Marines that haven't received enough training, lose to trained Marines from another country in a training exercise. Oh no. Never saw this coming.

The Telegraph understands the US forces asked for a reset half way into the five-day war fighting exercise, having suffered significant simulated casualties.
At one point in the battle, the commandos kill board, an intelligence assessment of the level of damage inflicted upon enemy equipment and units, had a tick against almost every American asset, indicating it had been deemed destroyed or rendered inoperable.

Given the current state of affairs, they can have it.

They call them "commandos", so are they special forces units of some kind?

Marines are the most overrated branch of the US military. Army Special Forces probably would have done better

but you do know that "Army Special Forces" have additional training beyond what the typical Marine receives, right?

the marines are in the absolute shit the most. First in last out.

of all the legit complaints out there them being overrated is not one of them.

youre also comparing infinity to rangers. No shit rangers would do better since they each get close to 1.5 million in training.

You do know the Royal Marines are like the British equivalent to MARSOC or the SEALs, right?

This is obvious.

That would address my original question, which is whether or not these were some type of special forces unit based on the fact the article calls them "commandos".

But then it's also not clear if the US Marine units were also some form of special operations unit or just regular Marines. The article is way too vague. And your rhetorical question doesn't really seem appropriate for *my* rhetorical question.

US is regularly getting its ass kicked in war games and various scenarios.

War games and training losing is a great learning experience individually and branch wide. Learning is how you win long term. This is the stuff that stops the US for preparing for the last war instead of the next one.
