How did they cheat?

The Astros' cheating scandal began early in 2017. According to the investigation report from MLB, Houston employees in the video room used game feed from the center field camera to decode and relay the signs of opposing teams to any Astros' baserunners on second base.

The means of relaying the signs often varied. With the runner on second, the team would have a go-between from the video room and the dugout, and personnel in the dugout would send the signal out to the runner on second, who would then signal to the batter which pitch was coming. Bench coach Alex Cora would also call the replay review room to hear the sign information and, sometimes, the replay review room would send a text to a smart watch or stored phone in the dugout to communicate the signs.
However, the report stated the scandal went further. Designated hitter Carlos Beltran and several other players devised a plan to improve the sign-stealing. Cora set up a monitor that displayed the center field camera feed directly outside the dugout, and a player would watch it and read what signs were coming. The team would then bang on a trash can to signal which pitch was coming to the batter. The trash can only came into play after trying out clapping, whistling and yelling.

Oh fuck them 100% then. They should be banned from post-season play for a long time for shit like that.

I'm not crazy about the Braves but I'm glad atonement has been denied to the Astros.

Hence, all the trash can memes.
Sometimes, opposing team fans will bring inflatable trash cans and toss them into the field to taunt the astros lmao

Its nuts to think that they used to be the good guys of baseball back when they were in the NL, with the Biggio/Bagwell age. They were the classiest team in baseball, but idk when they changed. I guess when they switched leagues.

They're not just cheaters, they're cheaters who never got rightfully punished for it.

Only their manager (Alex Cora, who immediately got another job with the Red Sox) and one former player (Carlos Beltran, who had retired and was going to manage the Mets but they let him go after the scandal came to light) actually faced any consequences. None of their current players faced any fines or suspensions, and their World Series championship in 2017 is (at least according to MLB, definitely not to the fans) still considered legitimate. They basically got off scot-free, which made the rest of the teams and fans even more angry about the situation. There are still calls to vacate their championship, and until that happens, fans are going to keep booing and mocking these cheaters as long as any players from that 2017 team are still around.

a lot of teams cheated, but the astros were next level in terms of doing it. largely because they were being managed by a Mckinsey shithead who traded for domestic abusers and tried to draft a child molester because they were undervalued assets

They all went to church together (or many of them) and did a lot for the community. Plenty of outreach and signing autographs together. They never had any scandals and the first times they even associated themselves with cheaters was when they hired Roger Clemens and Andy Petit. Then they hired Miguel Tejada (all former steroid users).

They basically went from Wally Clever to whatever they are now. I grew up going to games to see Biggio and Bagwell, but I quit watching them a year or two after their 2005 World Series run. The mainstay players retired or quit and there was a lot of pressure from the fans to field players who could actually hit the ball. It just wasnt the same team and then they switched leagues.

The first few years when they switched, they weren't that great. Their finishes in the division after they switched leagues was 5th, 4th, 2nd (they did make the playoffs that year, so they got the initial taste of doing good that year), and 3rd. They were actually one of the worst teams that first year they switched (lost 110+ games). Then they dominated for the last five years practically (they did win the one World Series but they cheated to do it).

Yeah youre right I got my timeline mixed up a bit, I forgot about the hilarious first year. I still think they were a success story at the time (relatively). Thats all I meant saying they werent a bad team
