you respawn at your home location with nothing lost except some equipment durability

there's main story quests from level 1 but the actual story doesn't start for quite a long time tbh

Im level 50, my main story quests are level 30, and its still an absolute abysmal slog of a story.

Friend keeps telling me it gets better once Heavensward startsbut fuck man. Youll be doing dull quests. And the main storyline is around 200 main quests long.

Like 90% of those quests are just "please talk to this person and say hi" they take 30 seconds to do each.

I think it's like 7 different talk to people quests just to get the airship lol

How does the plot of 14 compare to single player FF games? Is it a good story?

One of the better stories in my opinion, though it has the advantage of being ever evolving.

It is the reason I never even finished A Realm Reborn.

There were moments where the story started to get interesting, and then they kick you back to three hours of "can you get me a pale of water from the river" and "please deliver this message to this guy".

Doesn't help the game world has a bluetooth earpiece for mobile communication baked into the lore, yet you can't use it for reasons and have to travel back to that one person every. damn. time.

Your friend is correct.

A Realm Reborn is really boring, since I can only imagine they were playing it safe back then and focusing mainly on making the game actually playable, as the orginal version was so broken. Once they had a good foundation, they were able to start putting more effort into the writing.

That said, I never found ARR that bad. It was serviceable, but I was more invested in exploring the world and getting used to the gameplay -- trying out different classes, etc. -- to actually be bored.

But I'm halfway through Shadowbringers now, and I can honestly say it's one of the coolest stories I've played in a video game. You just gotta push through ARR.

As for TC's original question: there's always a main story. Just follow the quest markers that look like they're flaming.

I really tried to like ff14s story, or push through to 'where it gets good' but I just couldn't. The base game story is so damn utter shit and mind numbingly boring with far too much 'go over here, now here, now here' with nothing interesting happening as a result.

The game itself is fine but dear god the better story has best be humanities greatest creation to make up for the utter shit you have to wade through.

I will say though, if you are forcing yourself to push through ARR, I doubt you're ever going to have fun with it. That's not really how the game was built -- you're supposed to take your time with it and dick around while you tackle the story in between other things. Trying to rush through it will just end with you being frustrated and not wanting to play it.
