WARNING TO CERTAIN KIDS: LEAVE YOUR TRACK SUITS AND SLIP-ON VANS AT HOME THIS HALLOWEEN!!! Three elementary schools near Syracuse are banning "Squid Game" costumes this week, because they say it sends a message of violence to impressionable students. The principals justify the prohibition because of what they call "the potential violent message aligned with the costume."

Parents from the 3 schools received emails saying, "We have observed some students at recess have been playing a version of [Squid Games] ... which is intended for mature audiences ages 16 and older. Due to concerns about the potential violent nature of the game, it is inappropriate for recess play or discussion at school" ... this according to WSTM, which obtained the emails. The Superintendent of the school district, Craig Tice, told the Washington Post, "Because of this activity our principals wanted to make sure our families are aware that it would be inappropriate for any student to wear to school a Halloween costume from this show." BTW ... "Squid Game" costumes are topping the list of Halloween getups ... at least on Insta. As you know, "Squid Game" showcases children's games, like tug of war and red light/green light ... thing is, the losers get whacked.

Sounds fair to me, elementary aged kids shouldnt be watching Squid Game anyway.

Never understood my countries acceptance of extremely violent things, but anything sexual is bad.

Lol apparently all the kids at my kids school play some of the games from squid game during recess and teachers have been freaking out about it. Its like they are literally playing children's games but because they were in a mature themed show they are now not allowed.

This stuff travels down the media train so fast that you don't even need to know that it's Squid Game to know the characters. Besides basic memes, there's references all over social media and whatever variety of shows kids are watching.
Back when Undertale was MASSIVE I think there were many many more children familiar with it through youtube than the actual video game. Same is probably true of Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Ring, Star Wars, and anything else that achieves mainstream imitation.

I sub a lot for grade school and Im always shocked at what these kids watch. I had a student dressed as XXXTENTACHION for Halloween. One kid drew Smokey from Friday in art class another drew Roger from American Dad. These kids watch everything and I cant get mad I watched all kinds of fucked up stuff when I was a kid.

A fair amount of kids in my daughters 5th grade class watched it. My kids have not. I explained what was inappropriate with it and they had no issue with it.

I guess some of the kids were playing Red light green light at recess but were playing it as if you died if you got caught. The teacher didnt ban the game but had to explain to 5th graders the right way to play.

Disagree. I let my kids watch whatever they want. The only stipulation is that my wife or I have to be watching it with them. If they are going to be watching something alone they have to log into their profiles and they respect that.
