Honestly, I didn't see what the outrage was until it suddenly occured to me that the kid in the dress is a boy and not a girl. And very shortly after that, the bully kid confirmed that the kid is suppose to be a boy.

Then I went, "Yep, makes sense that the internet is is fighting over this."

the beginning gave me a pretty sinister Let The Right One In type of vibe. like she was a vampire and lying about being a nanny so the kid will invite her in and then she can eat him. i actually like that old vampire trope because it means the vampire has to decieve and earn the victim's trust, just to betray it in the biggest way possible. it's sinful, terrible, and beautiful
