they have only recently discovered the way to decipher the clues to find the island so the strawhats are the closest to finding it but they wont find it until the end of the series

tbh I can see Wano staying as the longest arc in the series by its end. Even the final war likely won't be as long, since most of the setup will be done by then so it'll probably be action from the getgo

They're fighting some of the last bosses right now, not much left. The fights are moving pretty slow, but the main plot is clearly moving. Maybe don't expect the series to try to rush to the end? It's still moving faster than Detective Conan.

Isn't Detective Conan episodic with the main plot just being an excuse rather than an end goal? At least that's what it seems from what I've heard of it

It is the end goal. They just have a million unrelated cases in between each arc that actually moves that plot forward. He's returned to his original body temporarily a lot of times but it's never permanent and he doesn't try to focus on fixing it for some reason

That's kinda my point. One Piece hits a nice medium between, "pirate buds just going on adventures", and, "long arcing story." Just enjoy it for what it is. Anyone complaining about One Piece probably isn't interested in the series in the first place.

They know where it is but have not reached it. In One Piece a special compass is required to reach most islands; however, the final island does not have a magnetic field for the compass to find. So they need to find four pieces of a treasure map (or rather, 4 stones written in a dead language) to reach it. Last I checked they have 2, maybe 3 of these Stones.

The final bosses of One Piece are
The Four Emperors
-Kaido (Currently being fought)
-Big Mom (Currently being fought)
-Red-Hair Shanks
-Blackbeard

The Marines
-Admiral Kizaru
-Admiral Fujitora
-Admiral Ryokugyu
-Fleet Admiral Sakazuke

The Final War will likely involve all remaining Admirals and the Strawhat Grand Fleet (+ all of his allies, likely including several entire nations Luffy had befriended up to that point). So when people say there's like 2 or 3 arcs remaining they're most likely right.

Other odds and ends.
The final island is so funny that everyone who witnessed it laughed until they cried. Gol D. Rodger left his treasure there, and it is probably a literal treasure. However, discovering Laugh Tale also means discovering the truth of the of the world, uncovering the mystery of the Void Century, and probably becoming an enemy of the world if you hadn't already. The Final War might happen after Luffy finds One Piece.

Luffy still needs to destroy Fishman Island. This will likely occur during the Final War. Marine HQ is near enough to Mariejois that a fight taking place there could reasonably end (or better yet, begin) with Luffy smashing Mariejois to pieces, destroying Fishman island in the process, and allowing the Fishmen to finally live on the surface. (The fishmen could join Luffy in the war if he destroys Marijois first) Destroying the red line in this way has the added bonus of creating All Blue (No red line means the four oceans are connected) which fulfills Sanji's goal. Most other goals could be achieved along the way, IE: Luffy could reach Laugh Tale then sail over reverse mountain to say hi to Laboon (Brook) before retreading the grand line (Franky) to reach Marine HQ.
