If there isn't a goal, or I reach it I loose all interest in a game.

The biggest examples is CoD or PoE. Once I get the big bad camo in CoD I loose all desire to play. PoE was boring to me once I got my headhunter.

You're very loose.

I get that feeling. I put 100+ hours into playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 and enjoyed it immensely but after beating the main story and even doing some of the side stuff, I got bored with it pretty quickly but I feel like if there were another 30 hours of story, I would have put those extra 30 hours in just because the game imposes it.

I'm the opposite , if I like a game I'll replay it and enjoy it dozens (or even hundreds) of times over trying all different variations of a build or strategy.

I've been playing Deus Ex : Human Revolution for the past couple months.
Did a stealth run , a lethal guns only run , no augs - both lethal and non lethal , augs only - no firearms or grenades, and have a couple of other ideas I've probably going to try before taking a break.

I did the same with Bioshock and Bioshock 2 when the covid shutdown hit, and I'm always replaying a PS2 Madden franchise of some variation, along with the Xmen Legends games.

I run into the same issue with most sandbox games. It's the reason I like modded Minecraft so much more than vanilla: modding adds clear goals to work toward, and once I achieve those, I tend to drift away from that world because the vague goal of "build something cool" doesn't hold my interest.

That said, I don't think drifting away from a game once you complete all the goals you're interested in is a bad thing, or even all that unusual. You've finished what you wanted to finish, so anything else would just be a bonus and it's pretty understandable that you'd rather move on to a different game where you have more concrete goals.

I usually get motivated by a good New Game + where you can carry over what you worked hard on your first playthrough.

Good experiences I've had with New Game + are Chrono Trigger (obviously) Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Fire Emblem Three Houses

It's part of why I mostly only play narrative-heavy singleplayer games (with player choice). For me, the ending of the story is the goal. Once I reach it, I'm done. Then I'll take a break, and if the story was good enough, I may replay it again months/years later.

Achievements can also help squeeze a bit of extra play out of any game. If a game has mostly easy achievements/trophies that are more a question of doing the work than outrageous luck or beating a ridiculously difficult boss/mode (or pulling off a majorly difficult trick), and if it doesn't have any stupid multiplayer achievements, I'll tend to gravitate to trying to 100% them. Once I get hung up on one I tend to stop caring about all the rest (it's 100% or nothing), but as long as they're all relatively straightforward to get I'll go out of my way to get them all one by one.

About the only non-goal oriented game I enjoy playing is Minecraft - and that's mostly because I go into it making my own goals (and I tend to lose interest in a world the moment I complete whatever project it was that I went in planning to make).

games lately have just been my excuse to distract just enough of my attention so that I can enjoy a nice podcast or some music

I think The Last of Us Part 2 or maybe God of War was the last game where I actually gave a crap about the story. (I remembered Hades as well before posting)

otherwise my mind just wanders

It's the main reason I use AStats, you basically just climb the achievement leaderboard by playing hard games
