Current Events > Is Assassin's Creed III good for its combat & environment?

I understand the story takes a long time to develop but once it gets going...is the gameplay fun?

I've heard the combat is at its finest in Assassin's Creed III (at least before Origins/Odyssey came along.)

And how was the environment? I've heard it's kind of like a miniature Red Dead Redemption.

Note: IDGAF about plot or story.

There were still several games after 3, before Origins came along. The combat is very similar to the combat in all the games, with a focus on blocking and parrying to kill enemies if you lose stealth.

Environment looked beautiful though. Nowhere near as much interaction or reason to explore as in RDR2 but it wasn't bad.

The cities themselves are probably the least fun areas to explore in the series. The combat in all these games is extremely mediocre, so expect the same here. I wouldn't say it's much better than something like Brotherhood or Revelations, if we're comparing to other AC games.

However, I found the natural/forest environments to be pretty fun. And I enjoyed a lot of the side content, particularly the naval battles.

Not really. There are infinite respawning soldiers so if you get in a fight it will never end unless you flee and hide.

The battle animations are good tho. Connor is a lot bigger and stronger than the typical assassin so his kills are pretty brutal and satisfying.

Worst game in the series I've personally played. The gameplay is better than the story but it was still very stale and bland.

It's been awhile since I've played the older ones but I think I remember brotherhood being the one that felt best to me gameplay wise

Worst AC game Ive played, gameplay was a huge step back from 2 imo. It felt like there was a lack of interactivity with the environment.

3 only gets hate because it lives in the shadow of the Ezio trilogy honestly. Then Black Flag came out and blew people away so 3 stands out for being the weakest link. Still a solid game in its own right.

That opening scene in Black Flag where youre desperately sailing through humongous, crashing waves blew my mind at the time though.
