Magnolia Independent School District in Houston has suspended the 7 students for breaking the student handbook's grooming coe which dictates males can not have long hair as now the ACLU has filed a suit on their behalf The District has 17 schools with more than 13,000 students in them and issued a statement that they've had dress codes that sets different standards for boys and girls for years and it's been a tradition for boys to have short hair to be more "presentable" to the male gender. It also said EARRINGS can ONLY be worn by girls too and NOT boys But the community disagrees with the rules as several parents and students spoke out on the handbook calling it dehumanizing and government entity to force the boys to cut their hair and meet their expectations of appearances said Daniel Hoosier While Hoosier did cut his hair after being placed on suspension, Tristan Berger still refuses and dropped out of his physics AP class and feel discrimination against One father said at the meeting "It's hair. people have a right to have hair" Another parent whose son was only named as AC discussed how having long hair for his son was crucial to his heritage because he is latino and many men in his family have long hair. AC refused to cut his hair and was pushed out of the school altogether The school maintains that they want a specific image of their boys and girls and that being a presentable young man in the world must be fully groomed and have short hair to be respected and be ready for the real world when they exit school and into college. But these students claim teachers made them feel like outcasts and one teacher even said they look like SISSIES because they look like girls with long hair..
