I only do it for an initial submittal so the baseline stuff surely went out.

All the time would be annoying af

Same. The fact you can deny them that is one of my only sources of pleasure working in an office.

I don't think there's anything wrong with someone wanting to know if their message was received. Technology is fickle, sometimes people honestly don't receive messages you thought you sent, for a multitude of reasons.

I draw the line at people using read receipts as a justification for getting uppity for a response, though. At that point, yeah, I'll take the "I'll respond when I'm ready, bitch" route.

I do. The fact that other people working with the e-mail sender apparently don't (making the sender want a read receipt in the first place) is not my problem.

You know that it got there from the fact that you didnt receive an automated delivery failure message.

Most of the time, you can probably rely on that, yeah, but I've had people reporting not getting my message before even when I didn't get a failure message. Not just with email, but with texts, skype, discord...

Not common, but it's happened. I don't really have any reason to assume these people would lie to me, either.

Maybe they want to make sure you actually read it.

C

Worked for a woman who insisted on them in lieu of counseling, briefing, training of staff. Her "email training" led to bad "policy" and she ended up the target 5-7 lawsuits and many more investigations.

She sent so many emails, they had to increase the size of everyone's mailboxes for her incoherent, contradictory but frequent emails.

Read receipts are disabled in my job
The only time I enable them is when the principal is emailing candidates so he knows they got the interview time.

I've tried it a few times but honestly it's more satisfying when someone's like "you never sent me this omg" and I'm like "check your inbox, Tuesday the 14th, 09:41" and they're like "uh... fuck".

People don't even read the emails even if you do send read receipts so what's the point.

I had a supervisor like that who did shit like this all the time, though when I told/showed her that I did in fact send something, she simply didn't mention or acknowledge it at all, as if her mistake/accusation would just evaporate on the spot.
