At least, theoretically. Like, if I ever get nostalgic about Metroid II, I'm gonna play Metroid II, not Samus Returns, even though Samus Returns is a remake and better. Of course, I can't imagine what such a thing would look and play like. Slapping stuff from Samus Returns or Metroid Dread onto Super Metroid would just be superfluous, because its already pretty much perfect - those games are trying to catch up to Super Metroid, not the other way around. Its almost the perfect game, so honestly thats a great reason to just do it as soon as possible. The fun of Metroid for me at this point is having all these different games play, in order or otherwise. It was held back by technical limitations. If not for that, it would be the Tetris if 2D platformers. That being said..... I dont think graphics are quite there yet tbh. Until we can nail picture-perfect anime games like DBZ, whats the point? That being said.... Id kill for a hand-animated Metroid like Cuphead style. Using the Zero Mission art. For Super omg? But thats a real game. What they were going for was a cartoon...... like the concept art.... and in the comics & on the guide & the way the ads focus on the artwork.... thats why Metroid Zero Mission works so well. If they had the budget & the ability to make it & the platform to play it on, I think they would have just hand animated everything. Almost like what Mortal Kombat was going for. Theyre still going for it in Dread. Pixel art is something we need to move away from unless youre like a Minecraft thing.....
