I once again will refrain from disclosing my choices until later. Still curious since it's been a decade since Battle of Hogwarts hit DVD/Blu-Ray. How time flies.

Imo the best ones are 3, 6 and 7-1

7-2 is good but I just can't get past some very questionable choices it made to love it like some do. Sadly, for as well made as it is my first thought with that movie every time is Voldemort and Harry flying around Hogwarts together for no reason

4 and 5 are ok

1 and 2 I haven't watched in a very long time. I found them intolerable. I guess I'll give them another chance sometime but for now they're easily the worst 2

6, even though it's one of the worst books.

4/5 had too much cut from them.

7-2 > 7-1 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 6 > 5 > 4

Trying to do 4-6 in one movie each was a huge mistake. They're all weak, especially 4.

The 7 movies benefit hugely from the extra time they have, and the content is covered quite well. They know how to do the emotional stuff and make it hit.

3 manages to both be faithful to the book and take the most adaptation license, but in a good way. It's kind of amazing it came out so well.

1 and 2 are both extremely faithful to the books and are almost good as them. Too bad those are the weakest books!

The 6 voters must not have liked the book very much because it cut out entire chapters of important content. Plus they treated the Half Blood Princeyou know, the titular character/subjectlike an afterthought. It makes me mad to watch it in spots.

Thats true too. The movie was definitely more enjoyable before I read the book.

I dunno about dirtier. House elf stuff and Bagman being cut sucks, but compared to 2/3 of Voldemorts back story, 2/3 of Half Blood Prince stuff, 2/3 of Quidditch stuff, and probably more Im forgetting, its a drop in the bucket. Both movies definitely shouldnt have made those cuts though, I agree.

1 > 4 > 7-2 > 5 > 3 > 6 > 2 > 7-1

Some notable changes from the book ranking. Movies 1 and 4 felt like they had a much better and more cohesive artistic direction than any of the other movies which results in them being the best experiences. 7-2 benefits from most of the things that I do like about book 7 being in the latter half as well as some of the actors really selling their performances. The rest is just more or less the remaining movies in almost the same order that I ranked the books.

6. the movies in general suck compared to the book but 6 was funny as like kind of a teen comedy - that easily puts it ahead of the others

I felt 5 actually was better than the book, personally, but Prisoner of Azkaban was very nicely done (apart from the very apt riff of Ron only having "bloody hell" as a line.)

best to worst:

3 for the gorgeous visuals and details, and the extended Time Turner sequence is awesome IMO (I rewatch this movie waaay more than the others

6 because it's funny and chill (much like the book!)

7-2 for being super exciting nonstop, being good looking, and does a good job on the twists

7-1 for having so many locations, and nailing the weird "sad camping adventure" vibe, especially nailing the heartbreaker ending

2 for being extremely faithful to the book, which is just a great murder mystery. however, the first 30 mins of this movie are torture

5 for doing an incredible job with Umbridge and Luna. however, the movie is really hard to follow (I'm shocked anyone who hasn't read the book can follow this movie) (also how dare they cut the st. mungos stuff)

4 is mostly boring, but the dragon is good, and the cemetary is good. also pretty unfaithful to the book IMO (didjaputchanameinthegobletofiyah)

1 is mostly boring (but so is the book, IMO!! compared to the rest of the series anyway)

It's interesting just how polarizing some of these movies are. I never realized it!

4 > 7-2 > 1 > 2 > 7-1 > 3 > 5 > 6

1 and 2 have that great "family friendly" feel that works so well for the early books. I don't know why Rowling hated it. It worked for those. The first one is better because, well, it's the first one, and its artistic direction feels legitimately magical.

3 is too drastic of a tonal shift and removes some of my favorite parts of the book (i.e. Malfoy and his goons dressing up as Dementors and crashing the Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw Quidditch game, only to be hit by Harry's Patronus. This is followed by them - all dizzy on the injury bench - being berated by McGonagall, who gives them all detention.) It feels bleak compared to the first two - it should've been a bridge between the "nicer" first two movies and the darker direction the series took thereafter. I can see why some people like it but seeing as it was my favorite book, the movie didn't live up to my expectations. It was too serious.

4 is pretty great all-around. I felt it was faithful to the book but very stripped-down. This is when the tone should've fully shifted also. I also think there could've been a movie between 4 and 5 that had some trimmed parts of 4 and some of 5 as well.

I think the plots of 5 and 6 are just bad and lack depth, so they don't work for me in either form. Movie 5 is better than the book because all the fluff has been cut out. 6 is the most boring of the movies (it may be that it didn't click with me, IDK). I also don't even remember a "Half-Blood Prince" in the movie and I don't remember the book, either. Which is bad because... a lack of memorability is a bad thing.

7's pair are a thrill ride when together - and there absolutely needed to be two movies here. The first is the buildup. The second is the war battle. It's epic.

I should rewatch them all to see if any of this has changed since it's been a while.

I went with 1. Well, I don't necessarily think it's the best like the topic title, but it's my favorite since it was the most magical and I feel had more lighthearted art direction.
