https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/a-black-trooper-in-louisiana-who-spoke-out-against-police-brutality-could-lose-his-job-in-45-days/ar-AAPAmVA

TLDR: Troopers tell guy's family that he died in car accident. Good trooper doesn't believe it and does some digging. Video gets leaked to the press showing troopers beating dude and leaving him unattended in handcuffs for nearly ten minutes (the video is pretty fucking brutal). Good trooper says "it's pretty clear there was a cover-up" and gives some interviews about it. Officials accuse good trooper of conduct unbecoming of an officer in seeking publicity and violating public statement and department loyalty policies and are now trying to fire him.

Loyalty to the department is always more important than finding the truth. More important to protect murdering and lying cops than anything else.

Something has to be done.

Not all cops are rotten. But the ones who are hold immeasurable power. The police are essentially the president's boss as the police unions financially back both political parties. That's why Obama couldn't touch that cop who shot the Black professor. They're untouchable even at the highest level.

The only way to bring about change is through threatening someone -- threatening them with loss of finances, loss of livelihood, loss of property, or harm to bodily person. I prefer to find nonviolent methods to bring about police change. I'm just trying to figure out what that would be. How do you put a hurting on police institutions to weed out the cops like the ones who did this coverup?

If it means replacing of 80% of the police force, it still has to be done.

Unless you change the role that police play in our society you could fire 100% of them and nothing will change. You'll just replace them with more bad people doing terrible things. I would recommend Alex Vitale's book The End of Policing. To along with it I would recommend Robert Evans podcast Behind the Police, which is a deep dive into the history of policing in the US and how we ended up where we are at as a good start to understanding the predicament we find ourselves in.

He'll admit that it was bad and that procedures were not followed properly. But will not admit that this is part of larger problem in policing.

You don't break the blue wall. That's why police brutality and misconduct take so long to get to the public eye. Bad police officers routinely get other jobs in other jurisdictions, but good police officers get blackballed and blacklisted for whistleblowing to the public.

I'm surprised it took 22 posts to find someone defending this. Bro, you are supposed to lick the boot, not fucking deep throat it. Plus that doesn't even work. What the police did in this situation was illegal because if nothing else they filed a false police report to themselves by claiming he died in a car accident. Thus the good cop was justified in his action to report what happened.

This, good cops tend to get harassed and blacklisted even after firing. His career is over unless he moves to a small town in another state. The system was built to protect officers from stuff like this.

So you genuinely believe this guy should be fired for talking about co-workers who covered up a crime? A crime that involved the death of another human being? You do understand that in literally any other job that would not fly right?

Do you think companies (let alone those with the authority to use lethal force on the job) should be able to prevent embarrassment in this way? Is it good for them to hold the power to discipline those who would make public their wrongdoing?
