It's well put-together, but it's not head-and-shoulders above other well-made indie games. The writing is good, but a lot of it boils down to memes and sight gags. The story is cool and the concept of "determination" is good, especially for how it works in previous save files and reloads...but it's not in the same league as games like LttP, OOT, MGS1-4, Final Fantasy 6/7/8/9, Pokemon (any version), RDR2, GTA:SA/IV/V, DMC 1/3/5, etc. Undertale is impressive for a small development team. It was fun for a while and had some nice memes. The soundtrack is top-tier--I actually bought the officially-sanctioned cover CD made by a bunch of YouTube musicians. But...it's not even close to the best game ever. I take some solace in knowing that when the "game of the decade" poll came out a while back, Undertale got dark-smashed by Octopath Traveler in the poll. Its meme popularity wore out. It can't undo the sham we got back then, but at least the natural order returned, albeit too late. --- I write Naruto Fanfiction.
