So many people mocked it's 10/10 for so long it's just burned into my head. After that, it seemed like no game ever deserved 10/10, ever. only up to a 9.9 out of ten. For real ten out of tens though (or rightful canidates), I think FF7, Sekiro, Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Persona 5 Royal, Demon's soul's Remake, MGS1, 3, and 4 (2 comes close, so does PW. First game that comes to mind as a 10/10 is Jak and Daxter. It was a childhood favorite that captured a tone and a mood that I never really saw again. It's a jaw-dropping technical achievement to this day, and the physics are weighty and fun - there's a real sense of momentum and weight that games increasingly lost going forward. The sixth generation of gaming had some really weighty, momentous games - consider how Super Mario Sunshine plays compared to 64 and Galaxy. Jak and Daxter was one of the best examples of this, even compared to its two sequels that added gunplay and vehicles. You could chain rolls into jumps into spins into punches into another jump, and it felt like you were getting somewhere. It felt solid and weighty and real. The plot was an excuse plot, but the VA was all pretty good. Every town and NPC had its own flavour and atmosphere. Again, childhood bias plays a factor - but Jak and Daxter continues to stand apart to this day. Name a game that captures the sort of naturalistic rustpunk aesthetic that it does, with ancient precursor races, natural sources of mana and magic that flow up from the ground, and that incredible mix of decay, nature, worship and technology that covers the entire game world. Then consider how the next two games paved it over. I don't mind the next two games, but Jak and Daxter stands apart from the pack. --- I'm gonna burn it all down today, and sweep all the ashes away Now Playing: Pokemon HeartGold, Minecraft, Oldschool Runescape ...
