He refused to get vaccinated. Said he didn't trust the vaccine and didn't think covid was as bad as the media made it out to be. In other words, he didn't handle this correctly.

He lives 3500 miles away in Washington, so I can't visit him. He's no longer answering my texts. I'm in contact with my step mother who's been keeping me up to date. This is the last thing he said to his first cousin:



My step mother keeps thinking he'll die at any moment and I have no way to talk to him. My first cousin and I are going out there in April to put his ashes in his favorite lake. I don't think he's having a funeral.

Please everyone, get vaccinated. Sure you can still get covid but your chances of dying are so much lower.

Duck man. So sorry. I remember having to put my dad on hospice and morphine during his last days battling with cancer. It was tough, but tougher reflecting on it for me.

I'm so sorry to hear that man. I know how it feels. My dad was vaccinated and I lost him about a month ago to it. He was in a more at risk group though with serious heart problems.

My dad gets annoyed easily. He probably doesn't have the energy to answer a lot of questions. He also seems to be going through the anger phase.

He moved out west when I was 10 years old. The divorce with my mom was really difficult. I don't blame him for anything. We've gotten together a few times over the years, but I still wish he stuck around.

My mom really doesn't like him, but this news is messing with her. She said she feels like part of her past is dying and she can't talk to my step dad about it. I gave her my step mom's phone number and maybe she can get some closure.

What annoys me now is that my step mother and her entire family in Washington are still antivax. She said they all refuse to get it, even though my dad is dying.

She blames this on him having COPD, which I didn't even know about. Even without that a person almost 70 years old is higher risk for death. They're all hardcore Trump supporters and watch Fox News. Not to go off on a political tangent but that shit is poison.

I literally had a patient whose son infected them because he lied about his vaccination status. The patient was immunosuppressed from chemotherapy. The son wasn't even remotely apologetic about it, in fact he boasted about how he didn't need the vaccine anymore because he got better immunity.

My mom is vaccinated, but now she says she wishes she never got it. And she refuses to get the booster or go in any store that requires a mask.

Honestly I'm over it. I will not try to convince her of anything at this point. I've learned that when people like this have their minds made up, that's it. Period. Even in the face of death she won't change.

My biological mother is going down this route and you know what? If she dies I just get my inheritance faster. I know that sounds cold but fuck it. I just can't carry these people and I'm done.

Everyone's probably had a ton of vaccines in their life, from when they were babies/children, to shots required for visiting certain countries, etc...

Yep. Even my step mom is blaming my dad's condition on COPD. Which made him high risk for complications. She won't acknowledge that he would have had a much higher chance of survival if he was vaccinated.

I honestly think people are DESPERATE for a conspiracy. Something big and threatening they can get riled up about - as they're bored/unhappy but refuse to do anything about it.

The only serious conspiracy theorist I ever met was my oldest brother. And I am pretty confident he only did so because he was dissatisfied with life, and "knowing the truth" made him feel smart and special.

People keep telling me to call, but I don't know if he wants that. The last text I sent was asking if he wanted to talk and still no response. I don't want to make things harder. Plus I don't know how out of it is at this point. When my grandmother was on morphine she was almost comatose. Step mom isn't real reliable with information. She said she talks to his nurse every day but doesn't tell me much.

Sorry to hear that, TC. I myself finally got my first shot just a week or so ago. I'm not anti-vaxx, I'm just too stubborn in trusting my own immune system. I realized how selfish I was being, how it would effect my family and friends if I got very sick or potentially died, and essentially got vaccinated for them.

I'm so sorry to hear.
