During the Falcons-Jets game this morning (on NFL Network), they showed a team photo of Washington from 2007 (Atlanta's coach was on their staff, that was the relevance), but they had it labeled as "2007 Washington Football Team Team Photo".

Which...isn't what they were known as at the time.

It's one thing to say "we don't want this as our name anymore".
It's straight up delusional to say "THIS WAS LITERALLY NEVER OUR NAME."

I know they aren't explicitly doing that, but lots of people basically are acting that way about things.

That doesn't seem weird to me. It was the Washington Football Team in 2007, when they had a different name.

It would be weird if they showed a picture of the Houston Oilers and called them the Texans because that wasn't their name. It's really not that weird when it's Washington though. The announcers probably just didn't feel like saying a racial slur on air.

If they showed a team photo from 1952 and captioned it "1952 Los Angeles Dodgers" it wouldn't make any sense lol

Yea but if i showed you a picture of the 1995 NBA team from Washington and said "man, look at the Wizards roster back then", you'd understand what i meant and likely wouldn't flip out because they were called the Bullets back then. Its the same team, in the same city. they didn't go away and come back, they didn't move to a new town and start new. its the same franchise. Also, the name was changed for sensitivity reasons. If a team from like the Civil War times named themselves the N Words and then changed, you wouldn't expect them to be called that historically later on...

The issue with the previous name isn't that they rebranded; it's that it's a racial slur. They aren't gonna put the n-word in their broadcast either.
