A 12-year-old girl in Weber County sustained injuries after being attacked by two dogs that officials said escaped from a backyard through a hole in the fence.

The dogs took Brynlee off the bike and to the ground, biting her over and over again.

Several people who stopped to help were also injured.

OWNER gives up pit bulls including a puppy to be euthanized:

Eventually, officers from the Roy Police Department got to the scene and took the dogs away. A third dog from the same house was also taken.

Police said the owner willingly gave up the dogs. They were facing charges related to the attacks, including two counts of having a dog at large, which was expected to be enhanced to a class-b misdemeanor due to the attacks, as well as three counts for failure to license.

The third dog was taken to a local shelter, while officials said the other two will be put down. Officials said the dogs involved in the attack shared the same breed line. Both were pit bulls, with one being a mixed breed. One of the dogs was just a puppy.

Because its a puppy in the same breed line and it did get blood, they decided its too scary to let it go and happen again, Markos said.

They could have been any dog breed. It just so happened by totally random chance in this isolated incident that it happened to be pits.

We don't know because breed information generally isn't ascertained or catalogued. So all we have to go on are the anecdotal reporting. Dogsbite.org catalogues it but it comes with all the problems anecdotal evidence always has.

Is there a way to get statistical approximations? Or just severe injures by dog per year and then get a rough approximation of how many of dog injures are from pitbulls?

The CDC will log "dog attacks" (though not every dog attack is reported) and from there you can use the percentages you can find on dogsbite.org (you will have to calculate it yourself) but your margin of error is going to be huge because of reporting errors and selection bias.

Dang, welp at least you are statistically safer around a pitbull than you are being unarmed around a police officer. That is like 40-70 deaths per year.

I wonder how many pit bulls are shot and killed by cops each year. I think there's been three incidents the past three months so... once a month?
