The story is basically "hey here's a bunch of scenes we couldn't find time or a place for in the first two games" but it's still pretty fun and the ending is probably the best one in the series.

While you could quibble over whether the Doors should count for this, I'm not even entirely sure it would alter my rating. Kevin's story is excellent all on its own and the follow-up/continuation with Renne leads to what is arguably my favorite moment in the entire series and up there in all gaming. If pressed to offer criticism, it would go to the early pacing but with the payoffs you get, yeah, I'm not docking points for it - besides, it never detracted from my enjoyment so...

It's my favorite game for a reason!

this is a big part of why i dont like it. these characters didn't earn this giant goodbye. it doesn't make any sense in the context of the larger world the game had created until then. the whole game is just fanservice through and through.

8/10. The weakest of the Trails games that Ive played. The game basically taking place outside the main universe hurts it, though I will say it does do a decent job at engagement given the limitations of the structure.

A bit of an odd structure but overall very good. I think the right way to view this game is as a short story collection, and I also think it's a testament to how good the writing and worldbuilding is in this series that such a structure can even work at all. Not all the doors are winners, but the ones that are are very good, and they provide a lot of insight both into what the Liberl characters are doing in the future as well as where the series as a whole is going. The "main story" waxes and wanes and the reason I'm deducting half a point is because there's a long stretch in the middle that's pretty boring, but the highlights are some of the best in the entire series. One of my favorite themes this series plays with is the idea that people should be allowed to love themselves, and while this isn't the first or the last time the series does this I think that theme is most resonant here.

Also Renne is the best fight me.

Kevin went from an alright character in SC to one of my favorites in the series. Even though a lot of the story is told in flashbacks and doesn't actually take place during the game, it works really well to dive into the back story of Kevin and Ries. As others have said, it has probably the best ending in the series as well, and the doors help establish some of the characters we've come to love from the first two games. However, they try to ruin Agate even more which is not cool. Also, the Society is hardly in this game which always helps because they drag down the other games imo. The fanservice in this game is also topnotch and doesn't rely on harem bs like some other later games in the series (the Cassius fight was fantastic)

The game's main story is probably the weakest of the series. The focus is more on the epilogue content for Sky and lore for the larger series. Which is what makes the game fantastic. But the overall story of escaping Phantasm is a lot weaker than the other narratives.

Least favorite Trails game and is more of an epilogue with its own plot arc because the main story concluded with SC.

Some doors had very interesting scenes in them but this felt more like filler and fanfiction in some cases. It still has a well written and enjoyable story.
