I love how huge the areas are, the first area has to be the biggest from any 2D Metroid so far right? Which could easily get surpassed by later regions in this game.

I just started and the jump and shot buttons are tied to the B and Y so so far I am managing
But does anyone know if later in the game I will need the A button for combat? I need to press it hard for it to register so I can skip the text windows but for combat it would suck

Successfully acquired both the amiibo and a special edition copy this morning despite preordering neither. Were off to a good start.

Also successfully acquired the last special edition via Wal-Mart just now! Sadly this means I have to wait until the 13th for it to arrive though :( I'ma be late to this topic but worth it to get the special edition, never thought I'd be able to.

I'm still seeing more special editions pop up at Wal-Mart by the way, if anyone is still trying to secure one. I'm assuming it's correct. I added another one to see if it let me and the shipping date changed to Friday, the 15th instead of Wednesday, the 13th like my first order. Hopefully that means my first order was legit. Anyway, took it out of my cart for other people. I ain't no filthy scalper.

I am, like, trapped or something. Every exit I have is either blocked in a way that I need the morph ball to climb through a one-block gap (and then there's one that arbitrarily has some new shit blocking the path that wasn't there before) or leads to a heat room that I can't survive in!

My opinion so far, 3-4 hours in I think:

I like it, although it is definitely not blowing my mind.

I think having JUST played through 2 of the GBA castlevanias right before this, is probably having an ill effect on this game tho. I miss the catchy music, and the creative pixel art environments. This world is not particularly lovable.

And, by comparison, in this game, it doesn't really feel like I'm exploring, I'm just looking at the map and saying "eh seems like they definitely want me to go over here next". Which is fine, really, at least I'm not wasting time wandering in the wrong place...

The EMMI stuff is pretty fun though so far, I think. I'd be surprised if anyone genuinely hated it.

Not a fan of putting mandatory progression behind completely unmarked walls like that, that kind of thing ought to be more for extras and shortcuts.

I'm at a boss right now at the beginning of a place called Ghavoran, and I literally can't believe how difficult it is. Like, I'm not even frustrated, because I'm just laughing at how hard I am failing.

ok in hindsight it wasn't that hard, my problem was (strategy spoilers) trying too hard to counter, instead of just spamming rockets, spamming rockets was good

I'm just a little ways after this, but this has been my favorite fight so far. The boss fights have been a ton of fun, but that one in particular was great. Something about mashing missiles out feels so good.

Also just beat this boss, great stuff. Very different to how I thought the fight would happen really.

Also I only got through about half of Circle of the Moon before this came out but Im definitely not feeling a lack of exploration here. The actually enormous areas help.

You do in fact need the A button, and it's extremely helpful in combat especially.

8.5 game for me. Really wish the music wasn't so limp. I was expecting some Metroid BOPS.

this game is great but Im having the hardest time figuring out where to go. I just turned off the EMMIs and am supposed to go to a spot in Ferenia but Im just clueless as to how to progress. Im guessing I need to find a new entrance somehow. argh! on the bright side Im pretty sure I have every power up I could get at this point

I was stuck here for a while. It's a spot with only like 4 rooms to wander around, right? I'm assuming you'll eventually try every move everywhere, but if you've bored of it use the speed booster at the fan.

got mine today and I got the morph ball (I like how late this is)

I'm glad it's really fixed my issue with Melee Counters in Samus Returns. It's no longer an essentially required way to deal with everything - or anything even, since even the enemies who like to get countered are easily kill-able with the beam. It's just a fun bonus to pull off that nets you extra energy/missiles when you do so, so maybe you'll be more conscious to use it when you're low.

map system is totally messing with my OCD tho lmao

Jeff Grubb reconfirming on Thursday's episode of Grubbsnax that Metroid Prime Trilogy HD won't actually be happening, but for next year they will be releasing either a remaster or remake of Metroid Prime. It isn't clear yet which end of the spectrum it will fall under.

definitely not going for 100%, too many speed booster puzzles, don't like those.

opinion on the last boss: it was really hard, but I liked it! And I'm not someone who likes hard bosses ever.

...but I actually think the hardest thing in the game for me, was not a boss, but one of the later emmi sneaking missions. I'm dreading doing that again next time I play this. I don't even really know how I got through it, felt like I kinda got lucky. I really liked all emmi stuff until that part.

for most (or all?) bosses in the back third of the game, my strategy was basically to repeatedly use lock-on missles, was that true for everyone else?

And boy did I get sick of looking at that map, in the back third of the game, it's so complicated. I guess I can probably see why they had to make it more complicated than the classic sotn-style map, because whenever you get a new powerup, you really need some help finding out where you're supposed to use it. But oof, my eyes.

Played a Switch battery's worth of it so far. It's great. Huge evolution from the previous formula. I don't even have the morph ball yet. Level design feels totally disorienting in the exact right way. Movement and combat is perfect. The animation blending is insane. Seems like a lot of plot gates though - not yet annoying but could be.

I noticed some plotgates too. But the game seems to at least be generous enough to let you walk around more freely to collect as much as you can before the next boss.

They also made diagonal bomb jump super difficult and designed the levels to guard against it (and infinite bomb jump). So I'm really curious to see if I can find some skips with these, or what speedrunners can do

Are you able to pop out of a morph ball shinespark and retain your speed boost? It seems like you should be able to based on some of the puzzles Im seeing but I cannot get it to work.
