Never bought a Switch because waited for an upgrade to be available. Was disappointed in the OLED news so i figured maybe wait until yet another switch model is announced. But now that SSBU is complete I am reconsidering buying the OLED.

Prob not worth it right. I'm still playing my Wii u

I wouldn't be surprised if the Lite and OLED are the last upgrades, barring a potential refresh of a Switch 1.5 or something with substantially better hardware or memory. So go for it.

There won't be another upgraded model. So if you haven't bought one yet you might as well get the new one.

I'm thinking of getting the OLED, but I also think a better Switch is right around the corner. For example, the chip that the Switch runs on has been discontinued, and the Switch came out in March 2017 - that was four years ago, and consoles tend to have a shelf life of five to six years.

If you have the disposable income, I would say that you should still buy the OLED. The resell value should be pretty great if there is a new console coming just down the line, and you can probably score a couple loose cart-only games on eBay or something.

Do switch games save directly to the cartridge? If I buy this console, I plan on borrowing games. But that won't do much help if I have to erase their save file.

You save to the system itself or a memory card you insert into it.

The Switch OLED will probably be scalped for the next year so good luck getting one at retail price. Preorders are already selling for $100+ over retail on ebay

You save directly to the console, but Switch Online has a save cloud feature. The base subscription is $20 a year, with lower costs for a monthly, tri-monthly or half-yearly subscription. So you could spend like $3 on a month of Switch Online, back up all your saves, get the new Switch, download your save data and then opt out of the auto-renewal process.

That's good. I definitely will be borrowing most of the games then. I think I can jump on someone else's subscription as well.

But I'm still on the fence. I still play older generation console games. I usually don't buy current systems because it only makes me feel obligated to play to justify the price.

I'm only considering the OLED now due to hype and fear of missing out. Hopefully it subsides.

no, and one of nintendo's chief engineers went on record just this morning saying there's basically nothing to do for it. Problem will last as long as the switch does
