People don't want unvaccinated people to die. It's more that if the reason they die is linked to their choice to be unvaccinated, then the empathy levels are low.

I live in Australia where we have universal healthcare, my opinion is if someone can be vaccinated, chooses to not to be, and then requires hospitalization because of that, of course, treat them. We're not animals. However, slap them with the goddamn bill. Medicare should not have to pay for that. Whereas if they are vaccinated, then Medicare foots the bill.

Hospital resources aren't infinite. They can be treated based on triage.

Are hospitals "wanting alcoholics to die" if they don't prioritize them? What about if they don't vaccinate a dying COVID patient.

If hospitals are letting people die, then why would anti-vaxxers even go to them. They should never go to a doctor ever again for the rest of their lives. That's consistency.

It's a simple yes or no.

It's not a simple yes/no because you're comparing apples and oranges.

Organ transplants necessitate vaccinations in order to increase the likelihood that the organ won't be wasted. Organ transplant recipients take immunosuppressants in order to not reject the organ.

Given how rare, valuable and needed organs are, someone who is unwilling to get vaccinated is not an ideal candidate for an organ.

That's not "being a monster." That's how limited resources work.

If you have one kidney and two people who need it, one of which is going to do all the necessary things to prevent an infection / protect the kindey
during a pandemic, and one who isn't willing to do those things... the decision should be made with this in mind.

To put this into perspective, if you're on the liver transplant list for end-stage cirrhosis and you're found to be drinking alcohol, you're dropped from the list. And you will likely die.

Because someone who isn't drinking, and will actually take care of that liver, will get it instead.

This lady needs an organ but is refusing standards of care that help protect that organ. That's her fault, not the hospital's. There are other potential recipients who will do those things.
