You can't.

Seriously, new moderators are only chosen a few times a year, and the minimum requirements for applying are very steep. Even so, hundreds apply, but only a few are selected. If you seriously want to be a moderator, you'll likely (but not always) need to have a history on GameFAQs that makes you recognizable to the majority of the user-base for several years to even be considered. Pestering the current moderators or admins to become a moderator essentially guarantees that you won't be selected.

I like how CJayC's attitude was the exact opposite of Alan
Alan is aware the site is dying so he actively has to ask people to apply

That's not even a possible achievement. There's thousands of boards on gamefaqs, some of which the majority of users on this site don't even know exist. You'd have to have some extremely serious dedication to the site to make yourself not only visible, but recognizable in a positive light "to the majority of the user base" of the site. That's wild you'd even say such a thing.

This is not true at all.

You have to hang out on certain boards and become buddy buddy with notable mods like Error. New mods are picked from a shortlist of people who existing mods deem are "ok" or "good people" and then Allen (or maybe another admin) rubberstamps whoever the mods choose.

From what I've seen, this sentence is poorly written - it should be "you must have been a member of the GameFAQs boards for one year or more, and your account must be in good standing". Except for the longest of purgatories, most moderations disappear well quicker than a year, and apparently mods can't see them anymore when you can't (although perhaps admins can?). Then think of the factors that one would need in order to cop a moderation that severe (without just being outright banned)...

I didn't even know about CE before becoming a mod and the closest thing to fame I had was people thanking me for arguing with trolls when nobody else had the energy. Meeting the minimum requirements and being a decent user seems to be all it takes, really.

One thing I'm curious about is if mods always have to become mod on their current account or if they are allowed to make a new one?

Edit: Also if mods are mods for the whole site or specific boards?
Theres no such thing as specific board mods, it's all one queue. I think some Mods have transferred their Mod status to new accounts in the past but its not something I'm familiar with.

Back in the day, some (new at the time) mods wished to remain anonymous so created a new account to mod on. The admins / other mods all knew who they actually were, of course. No idea if it still happens.
