The story is silly quite often, but I do love its sense of style and the ending is great. Another Day is one of the best examples of self-parody in any game as well.

Basically a collection of stock anime cliches, but some of the characters like Sho are actually really funny. Everyone is surprisingly lively considering a lot of the same staff that worked on Kingdom Hearts were behind this.

Total, thorough, embarrassing garbage. One of the worst games I've ever played, with one of the worst plots I've ever seen and quite possibly the worst soundtrack ever. I won't get into gameplay since this is a plot topic, but that's trash too.

Super corny; this is a hard one to review because so much of the plot/characters here rely on the game's aesthetic. To what degree does a character's design actually factor into the story? I think a little. Is a game's music part of the story? I think I have to say no.

Anyway... 6/10

Good music enhances the effectiveness of story beats, so I would definitely take it into account if it's used well.

prime example of this is the "You're Not Alone" scene in FFIX, that scene is memorable primarily because of that song (hence why the scene is basically named after the song)

I wasn't as high on this game from the story angle as the rest of this topic, but I think Final Voyage from Outer Wilds is a great example of music and storytelling in games. If nothing else, it's a clear-cut example of the writers trying to use the music to directly communicate an idea about the story to the player, though I thought it was also a pretty effective moment as well.

There's also plenty of examples of using musical motifs as a tool throughout a game to create specific emotional responses in the player. (Think Whereabouts of Light and variants from Trails in the Sky, or Yuna's Theme in FFX, or whichever of the many other examples there are)

Of course I also agree with Leon's point that if a sad song makes a part of the game more sad then it's contributed to the story, but there's also instances more active than that, I think.

Oh, there are plenty of examples. I feel like music is an active element of any good visual novel, for instance. I just used a more famous example that people are probably more familiar with.
