I still think the sewage coming from conservative pundits for decades is the main original problem. If those people had entered the internet age with healthy minds, social media wouldn't have become as toxic as it is now.

Misinformation is telling obvious lies or wrong information. Like 2+2=5 is misinformation. Sure you can make it into a completely different problem by adding random shit to it so 2+2=4 becomes 2+2=5 but it's just math magic. When you do misinformation your convincing others that 2+2=5 either willfully or ignorantly.

I know what misinformation is. My question is who will be the entity that will oversee it. Is the government going to tell us what is true and what is false?

With your example, the truth is the truth, but someone has to enforce it. Some organization would have to say hey 2+2 does not equal 5, take it down.

Censorship of lies and deliberate misinformation is good, though.

And notice, again, how the conservative things that good thinks lead to communism.

Everyone is saying you can't "censor" lies because you can't trust the government to push the actual truth.

But there is one truth and someone has to enforce it. If not the government, then someone. Multiple realities can't exist at once. Besides, "government" isn't bad. The government is essential for the existence of society and is supposed to be an extension of our will.

many nations don't have freedom of speech, period.

words can be a powerful tool. you can hurt or heal with them. your words can motivate or discourage. freedom of speech is a powerful tool, and powerful tools require the user to hold a certain level of responsibility. but what do you say to people who actively avoid any sort of personal accountability?

deliberately spreading misinformation is an irresponsible(at best) use of freedom of speech, and society should normalize using their freedom of speech to correct those spreading it.

those who continue should expect to be criticized and shunned. nobody should feel obligated to placate a liar's feelings for spreading poison.

So we need to allow people to spread harmful lies.

We need someone to enforce the truth. Who do we trust?

And shouldn't we ignore all laws if we truly don't trust the government? Who are they to determine legality or mortality? I didn't vote for all of them.
