It's not accessibility. The vaccine is definitely everywhere here.

They're antivaxx and it comes from mistrust of the entire system. Not giving an excuse, just an explanation.

Also Walmarts are banned in NYC FYI, but yeah, there's tons of other places.

Which doesn't make much sense at this point. There is a pandemic going on. Lots of people are still dying. Might make sense at the beginning of the vaccine rollout, but now? There is a metric ton of proof showing vaccines work and are much much much much safer than getting covid. Do they also only homeschool their kids? Cause public schools all require vaccinations.

I only say "maybe don't yell and scream at them and call them garbage. Maybe show a bit more patience and offer incentives and/or make it even easier to get vaccinated. Also, I think mandates and passports are mostly fair game at this point."

That is nowhere near defending anti vax people. All I'm doing is suggest us pro vaccine people contribute less toxicity to the vaccine discussion in hopes of that increasing vaccination rates.

I completely fail to see how I creasing the toxicity of the discussion, line you and many others on this board very often do, can be beneficial in any sort of way.

Nothing in all of human history has shown that expressing aggression at someone will change their mind. Quite the opposite actually.

I give black anti vaxxers a lot more leeway than white ones for obvious reasons if you know our history, but this isn't racism and shouldn't be treated as such. It would be if that vaccine wasn't readily available in black communities or was expensive, but neither of that is true. You make a decision and it has consequences, the only part of it that has anything racial about it is the reason for the distrust but the thing is 70% of the country already has taken it and the FDA fully approved one with another not being that far behind, the distrust shouldn't be there anymore.

Insular communities that have been fucked over all their lives don't really care about what's going on outside, especially with poor education.

It's a sad truth. There's no actual source of believable information in situations like that. All that proof can be handwaved as made up.

It's worsened by algorithm based YouTube/social media rabbit holes and black celebrities who have been blatant or otherwise about vaccines. Like Busta, Nicki, Sasha Banks, Lebron, Letitia Wright and tons of others, especially rappers, who have lots of sway.

I honestly don't know what the solution here is where people don't end up doubling down the stricter it gets.

The absolute biggest problem we have in the country is misinformation at the algorithmic level. Basically, it doesn't care if it takes you to something that's complete bullshit. We need to change that because in general, most people can't discern truth from fiction. Even tons of otherwise smart people.

Ah the wizard's first rule. Anyways, still dont technically need education to realize that you should listen to an expert in the area the expert excels at. Also we really need to get rid of the republican party and fix our education system.

I'm sure you understand the differences there and many do prefer black owned companies providing those experts.

Also this is what I was referring to in terms of the the damage that misinformation is having on the susceptible and the rise of the right and conspiracies.

Cases like this are part of the reason why I advocate we not yell and scream at the unvaccinated and try to be patient with them. The political discourse in this country has been absolute garbage for many years now and vaccination status is a very significant part of that.

The reality is that you can have mandates. You can have passports. Then another unknown percentage of the population either needs to be properly incentivized (passports, mandates, or $$$) or convinced of the benefits of the vaccine.

People aren't exactly wrong to not blindly trust authority in general. Granted, this is a case where they are definitely wrong to not trust authority figures. It can be tricky to tell people to think for themselves, bit also there is no amount of personal research you can do to truly understand how and why this vaccine works especially compared to the effects of covid without the vaccine.

I mean, you can trust the conclusions that experts are communicating, but you will never understand the fine details of how scientists reached their conclusions.

The reality of the vaccine is you need some trust in the authorities to be willing to take it
