I didn't get it either, until low karma accounts started trying to put me in my place without any real effort. Then it made sense. People aren't getting banned and new people aren't just showing up every month. It's mostly just people too cowardly and insecure to not have an alias for their alias. If you're doing an alias for a bit that won't work with your main, maybe I get it a little.

most of them are either rouletted or else paid for if they have low karma to account date creation
